• M: What did you think of the food in Brazil?
• F: We were only there for two weeks, and we couldn't go
to different parts of the country. But I liked what I had.
• M: Did you try that dish with back beans, meat and rice?
• F: Yes, it's called feijoada. I had it once and it was very
good. What I liked more than anything, though, was the
seafood. lt was great.
• M: That's interesting.
• F: Yes, and we had lots of different types of pasta too. I
think they like Italian food there.
• M: Everyone likes Italian food.
• Hi, Chris. lt's Ben. l'm going to the beach with my mum
and my brother and sister later. Would you like to come
with us? We're leaving at about two after we've had some
lunch. lf you could come round to my house at about that
time, we could give you a lift. Just bring your swimming
things and a towel. We'll probably get a drink or an ice-
cream at that cafe we've been to before later in the
afternoon. Call me or send me a message. Bye.
• 3 M: What's your favorite breakfast food?
• F: Well, last summer, when we stayed in a hotel, I had,
omelet every day. I could see the cook making it and it was
delicious. At home, though, we're all in such a hurry at
breakfast that no-one has the time to cook.
• M: That sounds like my family.
• F: Most days, we just have toast and a glass of orange
juice. lt doesn't bother me, though. M: Don't you get
bored?
• F: Not really. I have cereal from time to time as well. But
not that much.
• Hi, Susie. lt's Emma. I wondered if you'd like to come to my
house for dinner this Saturday. My auntie and cousins are
coming, and Dad said I can invite a friend. He's cooking
actually. He doesn't cook very often, but when he does,
it's usually good. He does some brilliant chicken dishes
with different sauces. This time, though, it‘ll be fish. lf you
don't fancy any of that, there‘ll be vegetable soup - | think
Mum's making that. Anyway, I hope you can come. Maybe
you can message me? Bye.
• 5. Do you have cooking lessons at your school? Yes. They
call it Food Science. Do you? Yeah. I love it. We do a lot of
baking - you know, biscuits and pastries - and this week we
made a fruit cake, which wasn't bad at all. Sounds good.
Can you take stuff home? Usually. I baked some bread
which you couldn't really eat because it was too hard. So I
left that at school. But I did a pizza once that my mum said
was better than anything she could do.
6. F: That smells nice. What is it?
• M: lt's a ratatouille.
• F: That French dish with lots of vegetables?
• M: That's right. My grandmother used to make something
tike this and I always loved it, so I thought l'd try it.
• F: Have you followed a recipe for it? M: Yeah, I looked it up
online. lt tells you all the different vegetables you need
and how small you need to cut them. My sister gave me a
realty good cookery book for my birthday, but it's mainly
Asian food. Anyway, it should be ready soon.
7. F: Did you see Teenage Chef yesterday?
• M: Yes, it was great. And the final's next week. Who do you think will
win?
• F: They've all done well. But Rachel's fried banana dish yesterday
looked amazing, and over the whole series, l'd say she's been the best.
• M: Rachel? The girt with long hair? She's good, but that girt Sophie -
with very short hair - made a great risotto.
• F: True. But she's good one week and then makes mistakes the next.
She's like that girl with curly hair.
• M: Jessie?
• F: Yeah. She has great ideas, but they don't always work'

Mrs. Jones: Libby; Mrs. Jones: OK everyone, quiet please. As you know, every week a different
student is going to tell us all about their hobby. Today, we are hearing from Libby, who keeps
bees. Libby, you can start.
Thanks, Mrs. Jones. Yes, my hobby is beekeeping I started after someone gave my mum some
bees as a present. She didn't have time to look after them, so I decided to do it instead. I had to
go on a course first to learn all about it. I'm so glad I did that I was the only teenager on the
course, but I had a great time. I knew immediately that beekeeping was the perfect hobby for m
The bees stay inside the hive for the winter, so I don't have to do much with them. Then in sprin
when it's warm enough, they come out and start looking for food. Through the summer I am
quite busy looking after them. I love spending time with them. I've heard that they can recognize
faces, and I believe that. When I look into the hive, I have the feeling they know who I am and
they're happy to see me. I have to be careful I not to let the hive get too crowded. That's becaus
when the number of bees in a hive gets too large, they at[ fly away. I also have to collect the
honey. I do this three times during the summer and get about 50 kilos of honey from my hive. I
don't really enjoy taking the honey - it makes me feel bad The bees work so hard to make it. And
did you know that each bee makes less than a gram of honey in its lifetime? So think about how
many bees you need to make just one jar of honey Anyway, I've been a beekeeper for two years,
now and I think it's a brilliant hobby. If you want to know more, just ask
Mrs. Jones: Thanks, Libby - that certainly was an interesting talk. OK - does anyone have any

Hi, I'm Dilek and I come from Edirne in Turkey' I've 15 been a dancer for
about six years - I started when I was ten, I do other free-time activities,
but I like this one best. I dance in a group which usually meets once a
week, but sometimes we meet twice or more in a week if we need to
practice for a competition. We haven't won any competitions yet, but
that doesn't matter As well as dancing in
competitions all around Turkey, our group dances at weddings and
birthday parties' We dance to Turkish folk music, which I love' When we
practice' we wear normal jeans and T-shirts, but at parties and
competitions we wear special dresses and shoes
• Burak: Hi, I'm Burak and I'm from Kenya, in Turkey. The free-time
activity I enjoy most is playing a wooden Turkish musical instrument
called an oud - that's spelt O-U-D. It's very difficult to play, but it
makes a beautiful sound. It's really good to play for sad songs! I've
played it since I was six. My dad plays it too, and he taught me. I
enjoyed learning because Dad likes the instrument so much and plays
so well. He plays in concerts and in a restaurant in my town, and
sometimes I play with him. I learned to play the guitar as well, but I
prefer playing the oud. I play it every night and I'd like to be a
professional oud player when I'm older.

WRITING PART 1
WRITING PART 2
1. Today, the internet is an indispensable part of human life. Besides the benefits, the internet
also brings us many troubles. This essay will discuss such problems and solutions to deal with
those problems.
It is true that the Internet is disadvantageous. First, it wastes of time because some people
spend too much time on the useless activities such as social networks or playing games
instead of studying. Second, it’s harmful to their health if they abuse it. Indeed, it is not good
for their brain and eyes. Finally, many people abuse the internet to judge and attack others on
social networks, causing many serious consequences affecting the spirit and life of others.
However, there are viable solutions for such issues. The government needs to create rules for
the internet. They should punish crime related to fraud and insult on the internet and
propagate people to implement them to solve these problems. For individuals, people should
use the Internet wisely to make use of its positive effects to make their life better.
In short, the Internet has certain problems but there are measures to deal with such
problems.(187 words)
1. Sample 2: Internet has benefits to humans but it also has problems. This essay will discuss
such problems and give suitable solutions.
• The biggest problem the internet brings us is mental issues. Some people are getting more
and more pressure and anxiety from the Internet. A lot of people like to bully and judge others
on the Internet, even do not know the truth, just following others. Many crimes such as
identity theft and child abuse result from the ease with which criminals can operate
anonymously online. Some have proposed a system of online identification, similar to a
passport, which would allow all internet users to be verified and traced.
• However, there are several actions that can be done to deal with these issues. Every
government needs to create the laws for the Internet and conduct strictly. For each individual,
they should use the Internet wisely. For example, they should choose reliable sources to read
and be careful with their own personal information.
• In conclusion, various measures can be taken to tackle the problems that are caused by the
Internet so that people can make use of its benefits.
2. Presently, many people like taking a trip by motorbike rather than taking a car or catching a
plane and there are two-side effects of this trend. This essay will discuss one advantage and
disadvantage of traveling by motorbike.
Travelling by motorbike is advantageous. In fact, taking a trip by motorbike helps you with
getting to the places where neither cars nor bicycles can reach. For example, travellers can stop
anywhere to take good photos of stunning sceneries on the trip.
However, travelling by motorbike is disadvantageous. The worst thing is that it causes too many
accidents. Most of accidents which take place in my country every day are caused by motorbikes
or relating to motorbikes. Moreover, traveling by motorbike a lot can be harmful to the
environment.
In conclusion, travelling by motorbike has many advantages besides some disadvantages given.
(140 words)
2. Although technologically advanced vehicles, such as airplanes and modern buses, make it
much easier for people to travel on their holidays, riding motorbikes is still a preferred choice of
many holidaymakers. This essay will discuss one main advantage and disadvantage of this trend.
One of the advantages is to help people save a certain amount of money. As compared with
traveling by plane or by bus, going by motorbike is much cheaper as people do not cost any
money for transport services, except for some fuel costs.
However, going on holiday by motorbike is not as safe as traveling by plane or bus. When riding
a motorbike, people can face certain problems, such as bad weather, traffic congestion, and
road rage. These unexpected situations can cause much inconvenience and even danger to
motorbike riders.
In conclusion, while using motorbikes as a means of transportation for holiday travel is
beneficial in some ways, it can pose some challenges to holiday travelers. (160 words)
3. It is true that machines are useful in many fields of life and there is an opinion that they will
replace humans in future work. While I accept that machinery do our work in some aspects, I
think that humans still play important parts in many others.
On the one hand, machines are really effective at some points. Thanks to machines, the number
of workforce can be reduced but the production even increases more, especially in the
manufacturing industry. Additionally, machines can work in dangerous places or areas where
people can not get to like deep ocean or outer space.
On the other hand, I believe that machines will not replace people in the future work. First and
for most, training is needed to operate the system, and only human beings such as scientists,
trainees and maintenance staff can do this meanwhile machines can not. Besides, there are
machine malfunctions, which create lots of troubles, and even sometimes lead to unexpected
accidents and in this case only human can fix such problems.
In conclusion, I suppose that we need to take advantages of machines to make our life better,
but remember its dangers and risks to take precaution timely. (199 words)
3. With the development of science and technology, machines have been invented to
help people in many aspects of life. Some people think that technological devices will
replace humans in the future of work. However, I believe that this scenario is not likely to
happen.
To begin with, machines cannot think as a person, whereas many occupations, require
cognitive functions. The human brain is considered the most complicated object which
definitely cannot be manipulated by machines. Therefore, with jobs that involve
cognitive processes like doctors and lawyers, machines can help people do their work
more efficiently but cannot be human beings' replacements.
In addition, it is impossible for machines to act as a person at a time when many types of
jobs need to be done with special skills. Machines can be designed to help people save
much time and effort when doing their jobs, but they cannot make products the same as
humans.
In conclusion, I believe that machines cannot replace humans in future work.
