Joining a Client PC to a Domain

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this exercise, students must be able to:


a) Create objects using Server Manager;
b) Know how objects are created using Server Manager.

Requirements:

Create Virtual Machine Disk for Client


Requirements:
Windows 7 Professional ISO

1. Click New

2. Name your hard disk: Windows 7 Client


Set memory size to 1024MB
Click Create
3. Set storage file size
Choose VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk)
Choose Dynamically allocated
Click Create
4. Select your Windows 7 Client on the left side
Click Settings
5. Choose Storage
Select the empty drive
Locate your Windows 7 ISO file
Click Ok

6. Start your VM
7. Click Start

8. Wait for the installation wizard


9. Click Next
Click Install Now
10. Accept EULA
Click Next
11. Choose Custom

12. Click Next


13. Wait for the Installation to be complete
14. Provide the name for your PC – LastNameClient
Click Next

15. Provide your password


16. Provide any of these Keys

17. Select Work Network


18. Wait for the desktop to load
19. Change the ip address
Windows Client
Hostname SurnameClient
IP 192.168.12.10
DNS 192.168.12.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
FirstName
P@ssw0rd (or choose your own)
20. Turn off Windows Firewall for both server and client VMs
Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall
Turn off everything

21. On both server and client VMs,


Click the Network icon

Change the “Attached to:” to Internal Network


22. Server and Client should be able to ping each other now.

23. Join the client on your SAM.local domain
Click OK
24. Provide the administrator credentials

Restart your Client PC for this to take effect

Try to login using the domain administrator credentials. You should be able to login.
You may also try to login a user you have created from LAB EXERCISE 4.
You should be able to login.
