What it is
I am a full-time photographer and I switched from Canon to Fujifilm in early 2015, and using
these cameras completely changed the way I work. Being a Lightroom user since day one I had
established a certain workflow and at one point I noticed that the editing process consisted of
several basic steps I had to repeat for each and every file. As I shoot RAW most of the time,
having to develop my digital negatives was a normal step, but the RAW files never looked like
what I could see on the back of my cameras. Luckily, Lightroom provides so called camera
profiles which can be loaded and these pretty much bring back the shine of the famed Fujifilm
JPG files. But still these RAW files lack the sharpness and punch of the JPGs, so further
sharpening in Lightroom is required. Depending on the camera’s X-Trans-Sensor, certain
settings appear to work best, and so every time I would edit files I would have to load them
into Lightroom, apply the camera profile matching the film simulation I had used when
shooting and then manually sharpen each and every file even before I could start editing.
What a waste of time, and I suddenly understood why so many chose to stick with the camera
provided JPG files. But I didn’t want to give up on RAW.

The solution was to create a set of IMPORT develop presets that can be applied automatically
while copying files to the Lightroom catalog. I included these as a bonus in this package, and
what they do is set a certain camera profile (like Classic Chrome, Velvia and so on) and certain
sharpening settings. As a result, RAW files loaded into Lightroom no longer look dull and
smudgy and you can start editing right away.

But the main element of this package are the Organik presets, which are a selection of my
personal “starting-point” presets and which have evolved from my personal “digilog” style.
Organik
I had never been a friend of pre-cooked presets, but I wanted to know how they work in order
to be able to create my own. When working with presets it is important to understand that
these can never be a one-stop-solution for image editing, but they serve as an excellent
starting point and can save you a lot of time.

One very cool thing about the presets included in this package is that they can be used both
as IMPORT and DEVELOP settings. This means that you can apply all settings including camera
profile and sharpening upon importing your files into Lightroom! Just fine-tune your edits once
they have been imported and you’re good to go. Should you change your mind regarding the
applied preset, a single mouse-click will load a new setting and apply all necessary camera
profile and sharpening settings right away.

While these presets had been designed based on RAW files with the Classic Chrome camera
calibration applied to in Lightroom, they can be used with JPG files as well – even of other
cameras not listed among the compatible models, the results will just look differently. So you
can still shoot JPG, but think of being able to shoot RAW will almost all the benefits you get
from your OOC-JPG files.

Installation for Adobe Lightroom

This preset-package will work with both Mac and Windows machines. Unzip the file you
downloaded upon purchase. You will end up with two folders, “Fujifilm Develop” and
“Organik”.

Start Lightroom and on the menu bar click LIGHTROOM then PREFERENCES. In the
PREFERENCES window open the PRESETS tab and click the button that reads SHOW
LIGHTROOM PRESETS FOLDER…
A window appears. Open the folder and look for a subfolder LIGHTROOM SETTINGS. Open
that folder and copy the two downloaded folders “Fujifilm Develop” and “Organik” into both
the folders DEVELOP PRESETS and IMPORT PRESETS. You will find your new presets
Restart Lightroom and you’re all set.
Installation for Adobe Camera RAW
The FujiLove Organik ACR Presets don’t have to be installed to a specific folder in order to
work, it is however recommended to put them into the main ACR preset folder which is
located here:

Application Support/Adobe/CameraRAW/Settings

Unzip the file Organik ACR.zip to this folder or any other place on your computer.

Using the IMPORT presets in Lightroom

We all know the unpleasing moment when our RAW files show up in Lightroom and they look
dull. This is because we are looking at RAW data as recorded by the camera sensor – without
any kind of in-camera-magic being applied. No sharpening, no contrast-bump, nothing. In
order to make our RAW files look like the out-of-camera JPG files, we would have to manually
load the camera calibration profile and apply certain sharpening settings in Lightroom. This
process takes time and knowledge – so why not automate it?

That’s what the “Fujifilm Develop” presets do.

From the dropdown-menu on the lower right of the import dialog screen in Lightroom pick
one of the many presets from the “Fujifilm Develop” group. If you shot your RAW files using
the Velvia film simulation on an X-T1 camera, pick the preset “Develop Velvia”. If you shot
your pictures using Classic Chrome on an X-Pro 2 camera, pick the “Develop XP2 CC” preset.

Important: due to the fact that the X-Pro 2 and X-T2 cameras have a different image sensor,
different sharpening settings are required. Therefore, I have included dedicated presets for
these two cameras. For all other compatible Fujifilm cameras please use the presets without
“XP2” in their name.

Once all files have been imported to your Lightroom catalog, the RAW files will look just like
the out-of-camera JPG files and you can start editing right away.
Using the Organik presets in Lightroom
The Organik package adds 52 presets to Lightroom that can be used both on import (as
described above) or at any point during post processing. As every preset also contains the
correct values for camera profiles and sharpening, they can be applied at the beginning of
your editing process (as a great starting point) or later.

Each of the 13 base presets comes in four different variations. Aside the basic variation these
are:

Gr: added grain

V: added vignette
Gr V: added grain and vignette

Every preset and variation has its own settings – even for sharpening. A lot of testing (and
time and effort) went into this in order to provide you with perfect inspiring starting points
for your editing.

You can also switch between presets without problems as each preset comes with it’s own
complete set of values. Keep in mind that no preset can turn a picture that is overexposed,
blurry or underexposed into something that looks better – but I think that’s clear isn’t it…

NOTE: These (and any other) presets work best with images that are well exposed and taken
with correct white balance. They are not meant to correct bad exposure and/or white balance.

Open a RAW file in ACR and then click the symbol shown in this picture:
Then click LOAD SETTINGS and browse to the folder containing your Organik ACR presets.
That’s all!

Be creative!
It may be tempting to just use the presets – but that’s certainly not the purpose of this
package. Use these presets as a starting point only and develop your own style. Learn how
presets work by looking at the values and by comparing them. Change certain values and save
the altered preset as a new preset. The learning curve may be steep but it sure pays off to
invest some time in learning how things work.

You may also find the presets to be “too strong” – this is absolutely intended. Especially for
beginners it is a lot easier to see and understand what a particular preset does if it is slightly
exaggerated. Play with the sliders and adjust things until you like what you see, then save this
modified preset as a new preset.

FAQs
Why are these presets only fully compatible with Classic Chrome enabled cameras?

These presets have been tailored exclusively for Fujifilm X-Trans RAW files of the above
mentioned compatible cameras that feature the Classic Chrome film simulation. All presets
are based on the Classic Chrome film camera calibration profile but only technically – they do
not look anywhere near Classic Chrome. The reason for this is that when I started developing
these presets I had been shooting Classic Chrome only, so those were the files I worked with.
I could not revert this later as too much work had already gone into this project.

Can I apply the Organik presets to a different camera profile than Classic Chrome?

No, but you can change the camera profile right after loading an Organik preset. Keep in mind
that things may not look as good as you’d expect because the Organik package is based on
Classic Chrome.

Why are there no monochrome presets?

There will be a separate package for monochrome presets available (it might already be
available as you read these lines)

Can I use these presets with other camera brands?

Yes, but these presets will only work as they should for compatible Fujifilm cameras. Things
could look weird when using the presets with other cameras but feel free to try 
Things look different on my screen

These presets were created and tested on calibrated screens. It is highly recommended to
always use a calibrated screen when editing photos. Screen calibration is simple and
inexpensive – I personally use a “Datacolor Spyder 4 Pro”.
