Chapter 2.øBlock Description
2.1 Function of Each Board
Antenna unit
The GPS satellite signal is received by the antenna unit, amplified by the preamplifier in the antenna unit,
and sent to the display unit via the antenna cable.

GPS unit (GN-74)

Processes the GPS signal to calculate ship’s position, etc.

GDC Board (14P0275)

The major parts on the board are the CPU, program ROM, picture RAM, and backup battery. The main
functions are;
1) To control the entire system
2) To detect key data
3) To control input and output data from/to external equipment, such as navaid and autopilot.
4) To store data (L/L, speed, and course) from the GPS unit and waypoint data.
5) To process picture (coordinate conversion, and writing data into display memory), such as track, marks,
and characters
6) To read data stored on the memory card
7) To output data from the memory to the LCD unit.

PWR Board (14P0277)

This board generates the following line voltages from ship’s mains 10.2 to 31.2 Vdc.
+5V: for circuit boards
+12V: for keyboard and some circuit boards
-26V: for the LCD unit
+100V: for the echosounder circuit (GP-1810F only)

ESB Board (14P0278)

This board, provided only in the GP-1810F, contains the echosounder circuit.

KEY Board (14P0276)

The board consists of 25 key switches, 12 brilliance control LEDs, and a buzzer.

MCB Board (14P0279)

The memory card data is input to and output from the GDC board through this board.

LCD unit
The LCD unit is connected to the GDC board.

2.2 Inverter Circuit for LCD Backlighting

2.2 Inverter Circuit for LCD Backlighting

High voltage for LCD backlighting is generated on the GDC board and output from J2 to the LCD unit.
The output from the J2 is about 320 Vac with the load disconnected. The figure below shows the inverter
circuit.

Transformer (T1)
Type: 14S4463
Code: 000-135-442

Chapter 3.øRemoval of Major Parts
3.1 How to open the unit
1) Loosen eight screws, ring marks in Figure 3.
2) Pull the cover up, shaking slightly.
3) Disconnect the fine coaxial connector connected to the GPS receiver unit.

Note) Pull the connector right angle. Do not joggle the connector, otherwise the connector will
be damaged.

3.2 PWR Board

3.2 PWR Board

1) Loosen four screws fixing the heat sinker to the cover, triangle marks in Figure 3.
2) Loosen three nuts, black arrow marks in Figure 3.
3) Loosen screws fixing the board to the cover.

3.3 ESB Board

1) Loosen two nuts (white arrow marks).
2) Loosen screws fixing the board to the cover.

3.4 KEY Board and LCD unit

1) Disconnect J2 and J7 on the GDC board. See page 7 for parts location.
2) Rift the front panel cover.
3) Loosen screws fixing the board and LCD unit.

Chapter 5.øAdjustment and Maintenance
5.1 Adjustment
+5V and the frequency of switching regulator are adjusted by R28 and R17 on the PWR board
respectively.

Voltage Adjuster Measured at Rating

+5V R28 J5#2(+) and J5#10(-) 5.05V
Switching Freq. R17 Q1 gate and CR1 anode(GND) 37.00 to 37.50 kHz

5.2 Replacement of Battery

The lithium batteries used on the GDC board and in the memory card are;

Type Code Number Q’ty Remarks

CR2/3.6L-FIST4S 000-137-171 1 GDC board
BR2325 000-126-680 1 Memory card (old)
CR2025 000-141-093 1 Memory card (new)

(1) Replacement of Battery on GDC Board

Before replacing the battery, save data to a memory card, if necessary. The data in the memory will
be erased when the battery is removed.

1) Dismount the GDC board.

2) Remove jumper JP1.
3) Replace the battery with a new one.
4) Place jumper JP1.
5) Put the GDC board back.

5.4 Program Updating

5.4 Program Updating

The following describes how to update the system program, using the program card. The flash ROM on
the GDC board contains the system program.

Note) During program updating, never remove the card and never power off.

Program Numbers;
GP-1810: 14506651xx
GP-1810F: 14506671xx

1) Turn off the unit and insert the program card into the slot.
2) Turn on the unit.
Three beeps must be heard and the message “Now loading” appears at the bottom of the screen. After
about 1 minute and 30 seconds, the message “Loading ended successfully” appears with a beep.
3) Turn off the unit.
4) Remove the card.
5) Turn on the unit, press [MENU] [0] [1] [3] in this order to confirm the program number.
6) Clear all memory. ([MENU] [9])

5.5 All Memory Clear

The memory can be erased through the menu ([MENU] [9]). When the key is locked, set the DIP switch
S1 #1 to ON, and then turn on the unit to clear all memory.

12
Chapter 6.øTroubleshooting
