Assignment: maternal and child health nursing is a specialty focused on the care of women
throughout their pregnancy and childbirth and care of their newborn children discuss.
A person ability to lead a fulfilling life and to participate fully in society largely on his/get health
status, this is true 4 women who commonly are responsible for not only their own health but also
that of their family .Thus it is important to focus on the health of women and family .Habits and
practices established during pregnancy and early childhood have profound effect on persons
health and illness through out life .
Maternal and and child health nursing encompasses a wide scope of practices typically
associated with childbearing .it includes the care of woman and fetus during pregnancy, care of
the woman after pregnancy, promotion of safe motherhood and care of the newborn usually
during the first 6weeks after birth .The goal of Maternal and child health nursing are promotion
and maintenance of optimal family health to ensure cycles of optimal family health to ensure
cycles of childbearing and child upbringing.

on and adapts to the physical and psychological needs of the family.it is based on mutual
trust and collaboration between the woman,her family and health care provider.it is a
partnership approach of families and their caregivers that recognizes the strength and
integrity of the family.these families and their caregivers that recognizes the strength and
integrity of the family .
-Evidenced based care:problem solving approach to making nursing clinical decisions.it
involves the collection, interpretation,and integration of validated research -derived evidence
from a variety of resources such as research findings,internal evidence from outcome
management or process improvement.evidenced based nursing practice involves the use of
research to establish a plan of care and to implement care.
MCH nursing seeks improve patients outcome and decrease incidence of morbidity and mortality
.it is estimated that about 287000 women died as a result of pregnancy and childbirth in
2020.The MCH specialty works alongside the physician to provide education, support and
advocate for both mother and newborn to optimize patients outcomes. This patient care occur in
clinic , antepartum units,labour and delivery centers, postpartum unit and newborn
nurseries .Each area require the nurse to demonstrate unique knowledge of health assessment and
nursing .
MCH nursing is focused on care of women throughout their pregnancy and childbirth
And care of their newborn. The specialty includes Obstetrics nursing, perinatal nursing, and
pediatric nursing .It aims to improve the health of women of childbearing
age,adolescent,children,infants and children with special needs.
Maternal-child nursing supports the mother and child through pregnancy, childbirth, and
postpartum. The nurse provides screening, bedside care and education for the mother and assists
her in caring for her newborn. Maternal nursing can take place in the home, providing visits for
women in the antepartum period to monitor their current health conditions. Obstetric nursing
takes place in hospitals and birthing centers where the focus is the progression of labor and
assisting in the delivery of the infant and placenta. Pediatric nursing seeks to assist the infant in
transition to life outside the uterus and to monitor for any developing concerns such as jaundice
or inadequate feeding. Perinatal nursing interventions must always be family-centered and
change with each stage of pregnancy and delivery. All these initiatives are essential public health
issues since the family is at the center of every society. The maternal and child health nursing
specialty seeks to address disparities, such as access to care and education, to facilitate optimized
outcomes for women and children that can have lifelong benefits.
Obstetrical nursing, also called perinatal nursing, is a nursing specialty that works with
patients who are attempting to become pregnant, are currently pregnant, or have
recently delivered. Obstetrical nurses help provide prenatal care and testing, care of
patients experiencing pregnancy complications, care during labor and delivery, and care
of patients following delivery. Obstetrical nurses work closely
with obstetricians, midwives, and nurse practitioners. They also provide supervision
of patient care technicians and surgical technologists.
Pediatric nursing is part of the nursing profession, specifically revolving around the
care of neonates and children up to adolescence.
