Project – ACTIVE DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS

Description:
Driver Assistance Systems which are popularly known as DAS systems help driver from fatigue due to over
travelling. In sophisticated cars which are equipped with many number of ECU’s a common feature available
is CRUISE CONTROL. Cars equipped with CRUISE CONTROL have the ability to move at a constant
speed without the intervention of driver. But what would happen to these cars if they encounter an object say
a BUS, TRUCK, CAR or for that matter any animal in their path? It would result in an accident endangering
the lives of passengers. To prevent such painful accidents, TRW has come up with DAS RADAR and DAS
CAMERA systems. When cars equipped with DAS systems moving in a CRUISE CONTROL mode
encounter an object in their path, Our DAS system would provide 3 levels of forward collision warnings to
the Driver. First level is Sound or Alarm warning indicating to the driver that there is an object in front our
car and if we move at this current speed there is a high probability of an accident. If driver doesn’t take
control of the car and the car is still in CRUISE mode then Our DAS system would alert the Driver through
Visual warning saying that we are nearing the target. And in third level warning, DAS system adjusts the
speed of the vehicle and if needed stops the vehicle to prevent accident thus helping the simple CRUISE
CONTROL to act as ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL [ACC] system.
