STARTING PROCEDURES FOR SD40-2 DIESEL ENGINE

PRESTART INSPECTIONS
Check air compressor , Engine for proper lube oil level & check level in water level sight gauge.

When coupling units together for multiple unit operation, the procedure below should be followed:

 Release independent brake.  Apply independent brake.

Precautions:-
• In trial unit (loco B)- Put engine run (ER) switch in off position. Putting in “on” position- Loco may not come idle during PCS
open.
• When PCS open than operate Automatic brake handle in emergency position in Loco-A(lead loco) only. Don’t disturb trial
loco (loco B) handle position.
• During Air brake hose pipes connection always ensure pipe length and secure properly to prevent any damages.
• During uncoupling of wagons-loco - Always put Air brake hose pipes in their hooks to prevent any pipe damages.
• During MU cable connection – Always secure cable with chain to prevent any damages.
