words that have the opposite meaning with the following:

new skills #1 Words with the same or nearly the same in meaning are called
(Explain) SYNONYMS.

Example:
Woman – lady or girl
Big – Huge or Large
Happy – Glad or Joyful

Being familiar to these words will help you in avoiding repetition of


words you use in a sentence. Also, most of the time, the use of the words
in a sentence can be your clues to determine the meaning of them.
Knowing their meaning can help you identify the synonyms.

Example:
I saw a tiny ant. It was so little that I could not see his legs.

 The teacher will ask if they have an idea what are the words with
the same meaning or the synonyms in the sentence.

Among the group of words, identify the two words that are synonyms.

Read the sentence. Identify the synonym of the underlined word in the

If there are words that are synonyms, there are also words that are
opposite in meaning. There are words that have the opposite meaning.
These words are called Antonyms.

Examples:
Big – Small
Happy – Sad
Day – Night
