Assignment 1
Assignment 1
What is the overall effect size of online training programs on employee performance?
How do different types of online training interventions (e.g., e-learning courses, virtual
simulations, mobile learning) influence employee performance outcomes?
What are the moderating factors (e.g., training design, employee characteristics, organizational
context) that influence the effectiveness of online training in enhancing employee performance?
Are there differences in the effectiveness of online training across different industries, job roles,
or organizational sizes?
Literature Review:
In contemporary organizational contexts, the dynamic nature of work demands continuous learning and
development initiatives to enhance employee performance and maintain competitiveness. Online
training has emerged as a prominent tool for delivering learning interventions efficiently and effectively.
This literature review provides insights into the impact of online training on employee performance by
synthesizing findings from recent research studies.
The study by Alves, Raposo, and Gomes (2017) delves into learning and development practices in
Portuguese banking organizations, emphasizing their role in fostering employee engagement. The
authors found a positive relationship between learning initiatives and employee engagement,
highlighting the significance of training interventions in enhancing organizational performance. Similarly,
Karakose and Yilmaz (2019) explored the effects of e-training on employee job satisfaction in the Turkish
banking sector. Their findings underscored the importance of online training in improving employee
satisfaction levels, which, in turn, contribute to enhanced performance outcomes.
Blume et al. (2010) conducted a meta-analytic review on the transfer of training, emphasizing the
importance of training effectiveness in facilitating knowledge transfer to the job context. Their study
revealed that effective training programs significantly enhance employee performance by facilitating the
application of acquired knowledge and skills in the workplace. Furthermore, Cai and Zhu (2015)
addressed the challenges of online training in organizations through a case study approach. Their
findings underscored the importance of addressing organizational barriers and leveraging technology to
maximize the effectiveness of online training initiatives.
Executive training programs have also been examined in the context of firm performance (Chung & Van
der Stede, 2018). The study highlighted the positive impact of executive training on firm performance,
emphasizing the role of leadership development in driving organizational success. Moreover, De La
Fuente-Mella, Barría-Pailaquilén, and Valenzuela-Franulic (2020) explored the influence of training
processes on employee performance in a Chilean company. Their case study revealed the importance of
systematic training processes in enhancing employee capabilities and contributing to organizational
effectiveness.
González and Palacios-Florencio (2019) conducted a literature review on the impact of training and
development on employee performance and satisfaction. Their comprehensive analysis highlighted the
significant positive relationship between training interventions and employee performance outcomes.
Additionally, He and Du (2020) conducted a systematic review of research on employee training
effectiveness, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based training practices in driving organizational
success.
In conclusion, the literature reviewed underscores the significant impact of online training on employee
performance in various organizational settings. Studies have consistently demonstrated the positive
effects of training interventions on employee engagement, job satisfaction, and organizational
performance. However, challenges such as technological barriers and the need for systematic training
processes warrant attention to maximize the effectiveness of online training initiatives. Moving forward,
organizations need to adopt evidence-based training practices and leverage technology to design and
implement impactful learning interventions that enhance employee performance and drive
organizational success.
