INTRODUCTION
The increasing recognition of the role of entrepreneurship in economic development had
led to governments around the world charging academic institutions to push for cultures
that promote enterprise and new business creation among graduates. At UHAS the en-
trepreneurship course is for two semesters. It is a yearlong immersion into the world of
business and students would practically learn to invent, develop, launch, and manage a
business. The overall goal is to create entrepreneurial awareness and motivation among
students and equip them with the knowledge and skills to identify opportunities and
gather resources needed for establishing and running a successful business.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course builds up on the earlier course on Principles and Concepts in Entrepreneurship with a
practical orientation. It aims at practicalizing the theories and principles of entrepreneurship
learnt. It is expected to introduce students to concepts such as, business planning, product devel-
opment and value proposition, venture finance and pitching for investment, negotiations, decision
making, selling and marketing and small business management. The course would also offer stu-
dents the opportunity to understand the Ghanaian health care and biomedical business environ-
ment, digitalization and other operational issues when running a business.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course students are expected to be able to:
• Develop business proposal and write business plan for their chosen businesses,
• Understand applicable business models in biotechnology, biomedical and
healthcare business environment in Ghana
• Describe healthcare and bioscience industry and market structures
• Innovate, develop products and formulate value propositions
• Meet backers and pitch for funding
• Launch businesses and products

PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES
Practical Activity 1: Digital Technology Assignment: Student would build on the Dig-
ital Technology skills acquired the first semester and further master selling on social me-
dia and secondary Ecommerce websites. They would also learn how to promote products
online, efficiently package and deliver online orders. Students’ effort throughout the se-
mester would be tracked and assessed and those who hit a sales target of GH₵500 and
above would win an extra 10 bonus point.

Practical Activity 4: Pitching and Investment Decisions: Students will, meet backers
and pitch their developed ideas for funding. They will experience investment decisions
making and deal negations.
MODE OF ASSESSMENT
End of Semester Exams: 60%
Continuous Assessment: 40%
