Assignment No.

02 Total Marks: 20
Semester: Spring 2024
CS407: Routing and switching Due Date: 24th June 2024

Instructions:
Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting assignment:
You need to use MS word document to prepare and submit the assignment on VU-LMS.
It should be clear that your assignment will not get any credit if:

 The assignment is submitted after due date.

 The assignment is not in the required format (doc or docx).
 The submitted assignment does not open or file is corrupt.
 Assignment is copied (partial or full) from any source (websites, forums, students, etc.).

Objectives:
 Design an IP Addressing Scheme

Assignment
Addressing Table

Scenario

 In the above scenario, you are given the network address of 192.168.100.0/24 to subnet and
provide the IP addressing for the network shown in the topology.
 Each LAN in the network requires enough space for, at least, 25 addresses for end devices, the
switch and the router.
 The connection between R1 to R2 will require an IP address for each end of the link.

Required Tasks:
Part (1) Marks (5)
Assign IP Addresses to Network Devices and Verify Connectivity

 You are required to only create the above given scenario / lab in Packet Tracer
 (Configuration not required)
 Rename PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4 & R1 (Router1), R2 (Router2) with your VU ID
 Send screenshot of lab after renaming PC’s and Routers with your VU ID
Part (2) Marks
(15)
Design an IP Addressing Scheme
Subnet the 192.168.100.0/24 network into the appropriate number of subnets.
a. Based on the topology, how many subnets are needed?
Ans: _______
b. How many bits must be borrowed to support the number of subnets in the topology table?
Ans: _______
c. How many subnets does this create?
Ans: _______
d. How many usable hosts does this create per subnet?
Ans: _______
e. Calculate the binary value for the first five subnets.
The first subnet is already shown.
Net 0: 192. 168. 100. 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Net 1: 192. 168. 100. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Net 2: 192. 168. 100. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Net 3: 192. 168. 100. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Net 4: 192. 168. 100. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
f. Calculate the binary and decimal value of the new subnet mask.
11111111.11111111.11111111. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
255. 255. 255.???
g. Fill in the Subnet Table, listing the decimal value of all available subnets, the first and last usable host
address, and the broadcast address.
