In this first task we will be holding several meetings with mental health
professionals. Which will help me train better as a psychologist. In the first part we
will be-Visiting a health center (Infantojuvenil) public or private consultation, where
we interview a psychologist, about the field and multidisciplinary work in clinical
psychology, then a report will be made. Elsewhere we will be making a report on
the most common disorders in our society, among them we have number one:
Anxiety, which is an unpleasant emotional state that is accompanied by somatic
and psychological changes, which can present as an adaptive reaction, or as
symptom or syndrome that accompanies various medical or psychiatric conditions.
Anxiety is considered pathological due to its irrational presentation, either because
the stimulus is absent, the intensity is excessive in relation to the stimulus or the
duration is unjustifiably prolonged and the recurrence is unmotivated, generating
an evident degree of dysfunctionality in the person. Another problem that is
affecting mental health in society is poverty. Studies done to date show that there
is a bidirectional relationship between poverty and mental disorder. Therefore, if we
know the underlying causal mechanisms, we can – and must – create policies to
prevent this from happening.
FIRST PART
After researching the topic in the suggested bibliography, it is recommended
to carry out the following activities:
1-Visit a health center (Infantojuvenil), public or private consultation, where
you interview a psychologist (option to use any technological means), about
the field and multidisciplinary work in clinical psychology, then make a
report on the experience.
To carry out this task we have sought help from Lic. In psychology and therapist
Bárbara María Romero, this psychologist works at the open university for adults
(UAPA). When I asked him about multidisciplinary work in clinical psychology, he
answered that: In these aspects, a treatment is proposed in a comprehensive
clinic, normally the specialists evaluate the patient and based on the diagnosis,
together they work on different proposals to deal with more effectively the problem
that the individual may be suffering. The most impressive thing about this interview
was learning about the functions of the different professionals, through a
cooperative plan. The objective, as the psychologist explained to me, is to integrate
the treatments into an evaluation that is more efficient. In the diagnosis stage,
professionals work individually with the child or adolescent, placing emphasis on
delimiting their characteristics and treatment needs from the angle of their
specialty. After collecting this information, usually in a clinical meeting, each
professional presents the results obtained but taking into account those
agreements on the direction of the treatment that the patient will receive.
2. Contact a social care and support center (Infantojuvenil) and inquire about
the most common disorders in the population and the impact of different
contexts on mental health. Then, a report is made with the findings found
and includes the cultural aspects to take into account in the intervention of
patients or clients in their psychological evaluation. Attach evidence of the
work carried out. Remember, make use of technological means.
One of the most common disorders in the population is linked to the way of life that
each person leads, but of the most common we have: Depression is one of the
most frequent conditions among the population and is related to other behaviors
such as addictions, suicide. and violence. Everyone goes through periods of
sadness, loneliness or unhappiness. Daily events and our reactions to them
sometimes affect our inner peace. But when the feelings last weeks or even
months, preventing us from regaining a healthy view of reality, we may be facing
depression. Depressive disorder is an illness that affects the body, mood, way of
thinking and acting.
Another very common disorder in the population is anxiety, it is an emotion that
serves for adaptation, as it prepares the individual for action, thus contributing to
survival. But anxiety becomes harmful when its intensity is persistent. It is identified
by the presence of states of restlessness, despair, fear and excessive worries.
People who suffer from an anxiety disorder have their social environment affected.
It has been shown to generate greater disability than other chronic diseases, such
as arthritis, diabetes and hypertension; and just like cardiovascular diseases.
Stress It is the body's response to respond to unusual physical or psychological
demand, which causes a state of tension. It occurs when adapting to new
circumstances, once the body responds and achieves balance, it returns to the
previous state. Stress becomes a problem when the person is exposed for a
considerable time to factors that generate said disorder, causing muscle tension,
headache or gastrointestinal symptoms, among others.
Psychological evaluation in the context of health joins the current formulation of the
concept of health and the causes of diseases. Health is not considered the absence of
symptoms, since a person can be very sick without presenting any symptoms. On the
other hand, diseases are currently not considered to have a single determination, but yes,
health psychology has practical applications in the area of health, and the emergence of
health psychology as a field of knowledge It has been greatly influenced by the
transformations that occurred after the insertion of the psychologist in health throughout
Latin America. It is observed that until very recently the field of psychology was
summarized in two main dimensions. The first covered activities carried out in private
offices , limited to a clientele belonging to the richest classes. An activity carried
out autonomously, by liberal professionals and in a general manner, does not fit
into the context of health services.
Among the cultural aspects to take into account in the intervention of patients or
clients in their psychological evaluation. We have to take into account that each
patient comes with a clinical history, that many of them, perhaps while growing up,
suffered from some type of mental disorder that later led them to suffer problems.
One of the most influential factors on a person is the upbringing they had, since it
is a way in which they compare their past with the present.
SECOND PART
Contact a social care and support center (Infantojuvenil) and find out about
the most common disorders in the population and the relationship between
poverty and mental health. Then, a report is prepared with the findings and
includes the cultural aspects to be taken into account about the patients or
subjects and their relationship with the psychological evaluation. Include
evidence of work performed
The population is going through a crisis that has been affecting a large population.
The COVID-19 pandemic is having a very negative impact, both on child poverty
and the worsening of children's mental health. The effects of the coronavirus
pandemic are yet to be seen in their full magnitude but it is evident that they have
compromised progress in many areas of development, such as the fight against
poverty or education. An example has been the closure, around the world, of
schools that provide one meal a day for thousands of vulnerable boys and girls.
But even though the population has overcome the Covid-19 disease, many people
are being affected by economic problems, because even though we are all
suffering from a virus that has gone around the world, many of the mental
problems are linked to the economic problems. The WHO explains in its action
plan that poverty is a condition that increases the vulnerability of suffering from a
mental disorder and broadens the consequences associated with them, such as
stigma, exclusion and the violation of basic rights.
Furthermore, psychological disorders decrease people's productive capacity, with
families usually absorbing the economic impact. That is to say, we are talking
about an endless cycle. Other people presented a study of the most important in
scientific dissemination in which they simulated financial situations, obtaining as a
result that the subjects whose poverty condition was reduced compared to the
performance in a test of cognitive performance, if compared with the performance
of people in the group with the best economic position. The reported data suggests
that being poor means not only coping with situations with a shortage of money,
but also with a scarce night of sleep.
2. Continue with the patient already identified or another case (child or
adolescent), prepare a report where you present the clinical history and the
semiology of the psychological diagnosis, take into account the use of
psychometry and evaluate the DSM-5 criteria. Includes evidence of the
procedure performed (It is recommended to be accompanied by an
accredited Clinical Psychologist) Show evidence.
Personal information
Name: Martha María Romero
Age: 37
Gender: F
Dominican nationality
Marital status: lucky
Academic level: 6th grade
Medical history
Mrs. Martha is the third daughter on her mother's side. She tells me that she was
not raised by her biological father since at a very young age she was given into the
arms of adoptive parents. Martha tells me that she has been attending
psychological therapy from a very early age. since her childhood was not easy for
her to manage, and for that reason she was returned to her biological father. The
vast majority of Martha's paternal family suffers from mental disorders. She tells
me that several of her relatives are mentally deranged and that her father decides
to commit suicide due to a constant disturbance of fear of the new millennium. On
the mother's side, they are normal people. different from that of the father. Her
mother died of stomach cancer, a situation that has Martha very worried since she
thinks she will inherit that disease. She also says that during her adolescence her
mother had to go to the authorities for her to improve her behavior, and that on
several occasions she was taken to psychological therapy which she claims did not
work for her since now as an adult she is feel the same way.
With this clinical history, taking into account the DSM-5 criteria, I can detest that
the lady is suffering from low self-esteem, stress problems. At the time of the initial
evaluation, the patient seemed a little stressed due, according to her, to the many
illnesses she suffers from. After having obtained the first rapport with the lady with
a health professional where we created an empathetic connection with the lady.
From that moment I began to notice that something was not right about her and
this is where the first conversation began, in which I was able to get the opportunity
to get to know her like a professional; Some of the things that I could notice in that
conversation were: strong stress, little love for herself, imaginary pain, and a strong
level of anxiety.
Conclusion
In this first task, you can further investigate various problems that affect mental
health, including depression, a disorder that is affecting thousands of people
worldwide. However, it catches my attention to see how, despite the situations that
the country is going through, there are still people who are not involved in the
situation. It is painful to see how people in the world are acting in a very drastic
way. I think that if our country paid more attention to the mental disorders that
several people suffer from, we would have a better country. Taking into account
the crisis we are in, and the one that will come - even greater - due to climate
change and global warming, it is not difficult to reach the conclusion that mental
disorders are going to increase exponentially worldwide. As we have seen
previously, more mental disorders not only implies less quality of individual life, but
also - in purely practical and materialistic terms - fewer days worked, less
performance, less creativity and less productivity, and this in turn will create more
inequality and more poverty.
