    COMPARISON

    1./ Equality (So sánh bằng):


    S + V + AS + adj/adv +AS + N/Pron
    S + V + NOT SO/ AS + adj/adv +AS + N/Pron
    EX: She is as tall as I am./ She is as tall as me.
    He cannot run so / as fast as his friends.
     As much / many (+noun) as được dùng để nói về số lượng.
    EX: I have not read as many books as my teacher advises me.
    John does not earn as much money as his wife does.
     Cấu trúc the same (+noun) as cũng có thể được dùng.
    EX: Laura’s salary is the same as mine. or Laura gets the same salary as me.
    2./ Comparative (So sánh hơn):
    - Short adj/adv (Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn)
    S + V + adj/adv + -ER + than +N/Pron.
    EX: He is older than you.
    - Long adj/adv (Tính từ/trạng từ dài)
    S + V + more + adj/adv + than + N/Pron.
    EX: She is more careful than he.
     Khi nói gấp bao nhiêu lần, ta dùng cấu trúc: twice as … as, three times as … as, …
    Ex: Linh types twice as fast as me. (Linh đánh máy nhanh gấp đôi tôi.)
    Her book costs three times as much as mine. (Sách của cô ta đắt gấp 3 lần sách của tôi.)
     Với danh từ: more + noun + than
    EX : I have more books than Peter does.
    * So sánh ít hơn:
    LESS + adjective + than
    EX: This picture is less valuable than that one. (Bức tranh này ít giá trị hơn bức tranh kia.)
    Với danh từ: less + noun + than
    EX: I have less free time than I used to. (Tôi có ít thời gian rảnh rỗi hơn trước đây.)
     Much, far, a lot được dùng để nhấn mạnh so sánh hơn.
    EX: She is much/ far/ a lot more intelligent than I think.
    (Cô ấy thông minh hơn tôi nghĩ nhiều.)
     Trong hình thức so sánh, tính từ ngắn đứng trước tính từ dài.
    EX: My car is faster and more comfortable than hers.
    3./ Superlative (So sánh nhất): (So sánh 1 đối tượng với nhiều đối tượng)
    - Short adj/adv (Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn)
    S + V + the + adj/adv + -EST.
    EX: Nam is the tallest student in his class.
    - Long adj/adv (Tính từ/trạng từ dài)
    S + V + the most + adj/adv
    EX: This is the most difficult problem in the book.
    * So sánh ít nhất:
    the least + adjective
    EX: This hotel is the least comfortable of the three.
    ***Tính từ ngắn:
    - Tính tứ có một vần (âm tiết)
    Young – younger – the youngest
    Hot – hotter – the hottest
    - Tính từ có 2 vần (âm tiết) tận cùng là: er, y, le, ow, et
    Clever – cleverer – the cleverest
    Happy – happier – the happiest
    Quiet – quieter – the quietest
    Gentle – gentler – the gentlest
    Narrow – narrower – the narrowest
    * Dạng bất quy tắc:
    Adj/adv So sánh hơn So sánh nhất
    Much/many More The most
    Good/well Better The best
    Bad/badly Worse The worst
    Far Farther/further The farthest/ the furthest
    Old Older/elder The oldest/ the eldest
    Little Less The least
    Few Fewer The fewest
    4./ Double comparative (so sánh kép)
    a./ Cấu trúc so sánh “….càng ngày càng …”
    S + V + short adj/ adv + -ER + and + short adj/ adv + -ER
    S + V + MORE/ LESS and MORE/ LESS + long adj / adv
    EX: - He works harder and harder.
    - The film is more and more interesting.
    - He ran more and more slowly at the end of the race.
    - The environment is less and less pure.
    b./ Cấu trúc so sánh “càng … càng”
    The + short adj/ adv + - ER + S + V, the + short adj/ adv + - ER + S +V
    more + long adj/ adv more + long adj/ adv
    EX: - The cooler it is, the better I feel.
    - The more carefully he studies, the more confident he feels.
    More, less có thể được dùng với danh từ trong cấu trúc này.
    EX: The more trees we cut, the more floods we suffer.
    The less you work, the less money you earn.

    THE ADJ./ ADV. + _EST


    MOST + ADJ./ ADV.
    Ex: My sister is taller than any other student in the class.
    - My sister is the tallest student in the class.
     ADJ./ ADV. + _ER THAN
    MORE + ADJ./ ADV.

    NOT + SO/ AS + ADJ./ ADV. + AS . . .

    Ex: a) Lan is a better cook then Hoa.


    - Hoa can’t cook as well as Lan (can).
    b) Stone isn’t as hard as iron.
    - Iron is harder than stone.
