sample. (3)

4. Calculate the mass, in grams, of 0.639 mol of Barium nitrate. (3)

5. (a) How many glucose molecules are in 5.23 g of C6H12O6? (4)

(b) How many oxygen atoms are in this sample? (2)

6. Determine how many grams of water are produced in the oxidation

of 4.03 g of glucose, C6H12O6: (3)

(a) What is the empirical formula of ascorbic acid? (4)

8. Isopropyl alcohol, sold as rubbing alcohol, is composed of C, H, and

O. Combustion of 0.248 g of isopropyl alcohol produces 0.553 g of
CO2 and 0.299 g of H2O. (8)

(a) Determine the empirical formula of isopropyl alcohol.

9. The reaction:
2 H2(g) + O2(g) → 2 H2O(g)
is used to produce electricity in a hydrogen fuel cell. Suppose a fuel
cell contains 3.00 g of H2(g) and 3.000 g of O2(g) (each measured
to two significant figures).

(a) How many grams of water can form? (4)

10. Adipic acid, H2C6H8O4, used to produce nylon, is made

commercially by a reaction between cyclohexane (C6H12) and O2:

2 C6H12 (l) + 5 O2(g) → 2 H2C6H8O4(l) + 2 H2O(g)

Assume that you carry out this reaction with 37.0 g of cyclohexane
and that cyclohexane is the limiting reactant.

(a) What is the theoretical yield of adipic acid? (3)

(b) If you obtain 41.5 g of adipic acid, what is the percent yield for the
reaction? (2)

11. How many grams of Na2SO4 are required to make 0.147 L of 0.250
