1. The equation of an alternating current is given by i=42.42sin628t. Calculate its maximum
value, frequency, RMS value, average value and form factor.
2. When a 12ohm resistor and an unknown inductance are connected in series across a 120v,
50Hz supply, the current is 8A. Determine total impedance, power, power factor, phase angle
and voltage across the inductor.
3. A coil takes a current of 2A lagging 60o behind the applied voltage of 220V at 50Hz.
Calculate the inductance and resistance of the coil.
4. A resistance of 7ohm is connected in series with a pure inductance of 31.8 mH and the circuit
is connected to a 100 V 50 Hz sinusoidal supply. Calculate i) circuit current ii) Phase angle
iii) Power factor iv) Power.
5. Given V = 200sin377 volts and i = 8sin(377t − 30◦ ) Amps for an AC circuit, determine i) the
power factor ii)True power iii) Apparent power iv) Reactive power indicate the unit of the
power calculated.
6. A 400 mH coil of negligible resistance is connected to an AC circuit in which an effective
current of 6 mA is flowing. Find out the voltage across the coil if the frequency is 1000 Hz.
7. A capacitor of capacitance 102/π µF is connected across a 220 V, 50 Hz A.C. mains.
Calculate the capacitive reactance, RMS value of current and write down the equations of
voltage and current.
8. The current in an inductive circuit is given by 0.3 sin (200t – 40°) A. Write the equation for
the voltage across it if the inductance is 40 mH.
Module –III
1) A D.C shunt generator supplies a load of 7.5kw at 200v. Calculate the induced emf, if the
armature resistance is 0.6ohms and field resistance is 80ohms.
2) A 4-pole, long shunt compound generator supplies 100A at a terminal voltage of 500v. if the
armature resistance is 0.02ohms, series filed resistance is 0.04ohms and shunt field resistance
is 100ohms, find the generated emf. Assume drop per brush a 1volt.
3) A short Shunt cumulative compound dc generator supplies 7.5 KW at 230V. The shunt field
, series field and armature resistance are 100Ω , 0.3Ω& 0.4Ω respectively. Calculate the
induced em.
4) The resistance of the filed circuit of a shunt excited DC generator is 200ohm. When the
output of the generator is 100kw, the terminal voltage is 500v and the generated emf 525v,
calculate the armature resistance, emf generated when the output is 60kw, if the terminal
voltage then is 520v.
5) A 30 kw, 300v DC shunt generator has armature and field resistance of 0.05ohms and
100ohm respectively. Calculate the total power developed by the armature when it delivers
full output power.
6) Calculate the emf generated by a 4-pole, wave-wound armature having 45 slots with 18
conductors per slot when driven at 1200rpm. The flux per pole is 0.016wb.
7) The armature of a 4-pole DC genertator is required to generate an emf of 520v when rotating
at a speed of 660rpm. Calculate the magnetic flux per pole required if the armature has 144
slots with 6 conductors per slot. The armature is wave wound.
8) A 6-pole generator armature has 1000 conductors and is wave-wound. If the flux per pole is
20mwb and the speed is 500rpm, calculate the emf generated. The field resistances are
0.5ohm and 250ohm respectively, calculate the load current when the armature current is
40A. neglect brush drop.
9) A DC motor takes 40A at 220v and runs at 800rpm. If the armature and field resistances are
02ohm and 0.1ohm respectively, calculate the torque developed in the armature.
10) Determine the torque developed by the armaute of a 4-pole motor having 774 conductors,
two paths in parallel, 24mwb per pole when the total armature current is 50A.
11) A DC motor has 6-poles, flux per pole of 0.05wb with lap wound armature of 600
conductors. Motor speed is 500rpm. Determine the applied voltage and back emf. Given the
armature résistance is 0.25ohm, armature current is 40A. Also determine the torque
developed.
