The industry I am interested in is construction industry as currently I am

pursuing construction project management and I have a background in
Architecture from my home country.

All of the above mentioned companies have job opening. These construction-
related businesses provide a range of options inside the sector. The duties of
the PULLMAN Construction Project Coordinator Intern in Toronto include
customer communications, budgeting, estimating, and project management
support. In order to oversee a heterogeneous team and guarantee project
success, health and safety procedures, and efficient procurement, Flynn Group
is looking for a Project Manager in Toronto. Estimating Co-Op of SKYGRiD
is looking for responsible candidate for cost estimation, tender advice, supplier
interactions, and stakeholder communication. When taken as a whole, these
positions offer a thorough overview of the coordination, administration, and
estimation of construction projects, serving a variety of needs within the
engineering and construction industry.

3. Networking Strategy:

a) Networking opportunities

 Professional Associations – many such organisations and group of individuals

regularly come along and organise multiple events where professionals from
different areas from within the industry come together and discuss about their
work.
 LinkedIn – Connecting and talking to individuals who are already in the field
can help grow the network.
 Alumni Meetups – Meeting alumni from same college can help to create a
stronger network and this way it will be easier to find references for the Job.
 Job Fairs – It’s quite unlikely for construction companies to come to job fairs
but still meeting people at job fairs can help to know the hiring team of the
company and this can boost the chances of securing a job.

b) Create a plan for connecting with industry professionals.

To connect with industry professional I will use the following ways:-

 Cold outreach – I can connect with professional via multiple social media
websites and give them a brief introduction about myself and express my
interest regarding securing opportunities in the field.
 LinkedIn – Building up a great network on LinkedIn can help spread the reach
and making new connections with every possible professional can help.
 Networking Events – I can visit industry specific networking events that take
place in and around the city. It can also help understand general trends of the
industry and latest styles of operations.
 Informational interview with alumni – I can use the great network of alumni
that the college have and request them to provide some time to take guidance
from them and ask about their experience in the field.

4. Interview Preparation:

I. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your academic background?

Firstly, thank you for taking out the time to interview me today. Myself, Naman Madan. I
completed my bachelor’s in Architecture from University School of Architecture and
Planning, New Delhi, India. I have completed two academic internships as a requirement
of B.Arch. programme, where I was exposed to the practical aspect of architecture and
construction industry. Post that, I continued to work as a Junior Architect with
Architectural Design Practice for almost an year back in India, which further developed
my interest in the construction industry and led me to pursue Construction Project
Management from Lambton College, Toronto.

II. Why are you interested in the Junior Estimator (Co-Op) position at SKYGRiD?

I have a dedicated Co-op term as part of my Construction Project Management

programme. I am eager to bring my skills to SKYGRiD, a company renowned for its
commitment to excellence in construction. The prospect of being part of the SKYGRiD
Co-Op experience, with its emphasis on hands-on learning, mentorship by professionals,
and active involvement in project teams, aligns seamlessly with my educational
background and career aspirations.

III. How do you handle stress at work?

For me, the right amount of stress is a huge motivator because it keeps me on track
towards my goals. But I do a lot of planning in advance to manage stress when it does
arise. My plan reminds me about the important tasks so that I can manage the situation
well.

b) Plan for attire, travel, and other logistics for potential interviews.

Attire
A formal attire such as a tailored suit or a blazer always makes a good impression.
Closed-toe shoes and long sleeves look more professional. And outfit should be
comfortable and resonate with company’s dress code. It should be wrinkled free and
ironed to make a one look more confident.

Travel
Planning and creating travel plans well in advance can help reach the interview
destination before the scheduled time and avoid delays. This will leave a good lasting
impression on the employer.

5. Follow-up Plan:

a) Outline a strategy for following up on job applications.

For following up on application, the hiring team can be contacted directly via
formal means such as E-mail and LinkedIn. When replying via E-mail, same
chat thread can be used to bring the mail into notice.

 Reflect on how this activity has prepared you for your job search.

This activity helped me understand how to target for the jobs that fit my profile
and how to tailor the resume according to job description, this learning can be
used for multiple job posting. It also helped me understand how interviews can
take place in Canadian marketplace. This activity helped me understand how to
follow up on the application and how to present yourself as a brand to the hiring
team.
