Learning Area: Quarter: 1
Mathematics
Learning Competency:
1. illustrates an arithmetic sequence M10AL - Ib - 1
2.Determines arithmetic means, nth term of an arithmetic sequence and sum of the terms of a given arithmetics sequence. M10AL - Ib – 1
Lesson No.: 2 Duration: 1 Week
Key Understanding Arithmetic Sequence
to be Developed - Sometimes called arithmetic progression
- Is a sequence of a numbers such that the difference between the two consecutive terms is a constant.
Common Difference
- the constant difference between the two consecutive term.
- D = An – An-1

Formula for the nth term

- An = a1 + (n – 1) d
- Where a1 – first term
N – number of term
D – common difference

Arithmetic Means
- Are terms that is in between two extreme terms.
- (A1 + An)/2 – used when finding only 1 arithmetic means.
- An= a1 + (n – 1) d – used when finding 2 or more arithmetic means
Arithmetic Series
- The sum of the nth terms of the arithmetic sequence.
- Sn = n/2 [ a1 + an]
Sn = n/2 [2a1 + (n-1)d]
Learning Objectives Knowledge • Define arithmetic sequence, arithmetic mean, arithmetic series
• Identify sequence that is arithmetic.
Skills • Solve for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence.
• Solve the arithmetic mean of the arithmetic sequence
• Solve for the arithmetic series of the arithmetic sequence.

(5- minutes) Recalling Past Lesson:

• What is a pattern/sequence?
• What are the different types of Sequence?
• What are the parts of a sequence?
• What is a series?

Presentation Activity MATH INVESTIGATION

In your backyard, you have a water tank system that has a 200 – liter (L) capacity to collect rainwater. Suppose that
rainy season has already commenced and there was a heavy downpour for seven consecutive days. Suppose further that
(10- minutes) the water tank system is well-maintained so that it will not be a breeding ground for mosquitos and that it is filled
constantly with 5 L every rainy day. How much water will the system have after seven consecutive days of rain? When
will it be half full and completely filled?
Analysis Questions:
1. Have you noticed the pattern? What is the patten of the problem?
2. Do the numbers create a sequence?
(5- minutes) 3. Does the pattern common to the consecutive terms?
4. What do you call this type of sequence that has common difference between two consecutive numbers?
Abstraction Day 1 (20 minutes)
Day 1 • What is an arithmetic sequence?
(20 - minutes) • How can we identify arithmetic sequence?
Day 2 • What is common difference?
(20 – minutes) • How can we identify common difference from the given Arithmetic sequence?
Day3 • How can we identify the nth term of an arithmetic sequence?
(20 - minutes)

Day 2 (20 minutes)

• What is an Arithmetic means?
• How can we identify the arithmetic means?
• What is the formula in finding arithmetic means?
• What formula you will use if you want to find only 1 arithmetic mean?
• What formula you will use if you want to find 2 or more arithmetic means in a given sequence?
• Give example on how to use the formula in finding arithmetic means.

Day 3 (20 minutes)

• What is a series?
• What is an Arithmetic series?
• How to solve an arithmetic series of an nth term?
• What are the formula in solving for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence?

Practice Application Day 1 (10 minutes)
