COMMON JOB INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1. Tell me about yourself.

I recently graduated from CIT University with BS in Accountancy. This journey has been challenging but I
do believe that this will lead me to a rewarding career in the future, Through this I was able to develop a
strong foundation in accounting, proficiency in Excel, sharpened analytical skills, The demanding
program taught me the importance of time management, planning or preparation, and the golden role
in accounting, never assume unless otherwise stated.

One of my proudest achievements was being named a presidential scholar in my first year. I also
participated in quiz bowls and drills to further enhance my knowledge. Beyond academics, I applied my
skills in our family business, handling financial reports, tracking balances, expenses, and profits, and
generating ideas for new services.

Additionally, I have strong communication and leadership skills, honed through various roles such as VP
Internal of PYCC, a lector, catechist, member of SocCom specifically in the writer’s division, former SSG
VP and year-level representative, and event host. These experiences have prepared me to excel in any
professional environment.

2. Why do you want to work for this company?

3. Why are you leaving your current role?

I am not leaving any current roles; I have only transitioned out of positions when their terms ended. I am
seeking new opportunities to further develop my skills and advance my career in accounting.

4. What is your biggest weakness?

"My biggest weakness is that I have trouble saying no to others, which sometimes leads to
overcommitting myself. However, I'm actively working on this by setting clearer boundaries and learning
to say no when necessary. This is helping me maintain a better balance and ensure I can fully commit to
the tasks I take on

5. What do you consider as your greatest achievement?


My greatest achievement is completing my bachelor’s degree in accountancy from CIT university. This
accomplishment reflects my commitment to academic excellence and my ability to manage demanding
workloads and overcome challenges. The program's retention policy, required me to strive beyond the
average to be in this far. Being named a presidential scholar in my first year and participating in quiz
bowls and drils are testament to the dedication and hard work I put into my studies.

6. Tell me about a difficult situation you have faced and how you handled it.

As a freelancer, I assist customers with processing government documents like SSS, Pag-IBIG, and
PhilHealth. One challenging situation arose when a customer needed to register for an SSS ID online.
While multitasking with another client from our printing services, I mistakenly entered the wrong
birthdate. This error couldn't be corrected online, and I was unable to register another account for the
same person.

I’m already in a panic but still try my best to find the best solution, I researched the solution and
consulted with my older brother. The only option was to visit the nearest SSS branch to resolve the
issue. My schedule was tight with classes, and the customer needed the document urgently for an
interview the next day. Fortunately, one of my teachers had no classes that day, allowing me a brief
window to address the situation.

This experience taught me the importance of double-checking details. Since then, I have developed a
habit of reviewing information multiple times to prevent such errors from occurring again.

7. Give an example of how you have gone above and beyond your role requirements.

8. What are your salary expectations

As a first-time job seeker, I am open to discussing a fair and reasonable salary. I do not expect too much
since I didn’t have enough experience however, I do hope that my salary would be enough for my
monthly expenses since I am supporting my family, a salary that would be enough to pay my bills with a
little bit of saving, for my emergency funds, for my leisure or luxury thing.

Based on the Industry standard of this kind of job, as I’ve done some research on the average salary I
found out that it ranges 15k to 30k for newly certified public accountants with no experience.

9. Where do you see yourself five years from now?

It’s ahrd to predict where I’ll be in 5 years from now with how fast the world is changing but I know I
wanna be in a plcae where I can still learn new skills and continue to grow, I wanna be part of a team
that challenges me, that expose me to different things, that celebrates the little things and big wins. If
it’s still here at ABC compant, that be great. I’d love to be managing a team by then and also be making
more of an impact. Like I said its hard to predict but I’m really excited here today and learn more about
this opportunity.

I heard it by a friend who also worked here as an auditor and I really grabbed the opportunity because

DMD is already 65 years in the industry, it is one of the largest accounting firms with a long-established
history of industry experience and compliance. The firm is known for its commitment to public trust,

exceed client expectations, promoting public accountability and good governance, and fostering

13. What type of work environment do you prefer?

I prefer to work in an environment that encourages everyone to reach their full potential, where
everyone in the company embraces changes positively, and where my ideas and suggestions are listened
to and considered.

14. How do you deal with difficult people?

When dealing with difficult people, I focus on maintaining calm and clear communication. I listen
actively to understand their perspective and try to find common ground. If a conflict arises, I address it
professionally and constructively, aiming to resolve issues through collaboration and compromise. My
experience in various leadership and communication roles has equipped me with the skills to handle
such situations effectively, ensuring a positive and productive outcome for all parties involved."

15. Do you prefer working independently or on a team?

I believe that working independently and collaborationg in a team have their own advantages and my
preference would be really just depends on the nature of the task. When working independently I really
do appreciate the freedom that it offers on the other hand working in a team can be highly beneficial
especially when it comes to complex projects that require diverse skills and perspectives, Ultimately, I’m
adaptable and enjoy a blend of the two, I can thrive in both independent and team environment.

16. How do you keep yourself organized when you are balancing multiple tasks at the same

time?
I usually create a to do list, which helps me keep track of everything that needs to be done, I also group
similar tasks which improves efficiency and reduces context switching. And lastly, I take breaks to
refresh my mind and improve me focus

17. What did you do in the last year to improve your knowledge and your skills?

I improved my knowledge and skills by participating in various quiz bowls and drills, which helped me
deepen my understanding of accounting principles. I also applied this knowledge practically by
managing financial reports and handling the finances for my family's small printing business. This
combination of theoretical learning and practical application has significantly enhanced my abilities and
prepared me for further challenges in the field.

18. Are you applying for other jobs?

No, I am not applying for other jobs at the moment. My focus is entirely on securing an internship with
Diaz Murillo Dalupan and Company because of the alignment between your firm's values and my
professional aspirations.

19. From your resume, it seems you took a gap year. What did you do during this time?

20. Tell me something that you dislike about your current or most recent job?

I don't have any negative comments about my current or recent jobs as I have enjoyed each one of
them. I am simply looking for an opportunity that will provide me with more knowledge and experiences
to further my growth in the field of accounting

21. When you receive negative feedback, what is it usually about?

Whenever I receive negative feedback, I will never take too much, of course there will bw some
time that I feel embarrassed and sad, Instead I wil reflect on the feedback to understand what I
need to improve. This helps me make the necessary changes to correct my work and prevent
similar issues in the future."

Usually it all about my carelessness, procrastination and cramming

22. What are duties that you will not take on?

I don't have specific duties that I would refuse to take on, as I always try my best and am willing to learn
any tasks assigned to me. However, for now, I might be less prepared for auditing matters since I have
just completed my second year, and auditing courses will be offered in my third year. Nevertheless, I am
excited to gain knowledge in auditing as I progress to the next level.

23. What kind of manager would you never work for?

I would never work for a manager who keeps all information to themselves and doesn't want their
employees to excel and grow or know more than they do. I believe a good manager should support their
team's development and foster an environment of collaboration and learning.

24. Tell me a time when you were not able to overcome an obstacle.
25. If you had a chance to land any job right now, would it be this position?

If I had the chance to land any job right now, it would be to become a Certified Public Accountant
because that is My ultimate career goal, with a particular focus on auditing. I am genuinely interested in
this field and eager to explore how far this journey can take me. This position aligns perfectly with my
aspirations and provides an excellent opportunity for me to grow and develop in the accounting
profession.

26. What would you do if you worked for a manager that continuously took credit for your

work?

"If I worked for a manager who continuously took credit for my work, I would address the
situation professionally. First, I would document my contributions and ensure there's a clear
record of my efforts. Then, I would have a private conversation with the manager to express my
concerns and seek understanding. If the issue persisted, I would consider discussing it with HR
or a higher authority to find a resolution, while continuing to focus on delivering high-quality
work."

27. Tell me a time when you did not agree with a company’s policy. What did you do about it?

Since I don't have work experience yet, I'll share a situation from school. I found the dress code policy
to be overly strict and sometimes unfair. For instance, I received a warning for wearing a skirt slightly
above my knee, while other students with shorter skirts were not penalized. Additionally, the policy
against open sandals seemed unnecessary, as sandals can be formal, yet our IDs were confiscated for
wearing them.

To address this, I discussed my concerns with the student council and suggested a review of the dress
code policy to ensure it was fair and reasonable for everyone. My goal was to promote a more
balanced approach that allowed for self-expression while maintaining appropriate standards.

28. Describe how you deal with a conflict in the workplace.

"When faced with a conflict in the workplace, I approach it calmly and objectively. I listen actively to
understand all perspectives involved and seek to find common ground. I communicate openly and
respectfully, focusing on finding a constructive resolution through collaboration and compromise. If
needed, I involve a mediator or seek guidance from management to ensure a fair and positive outcome
for everyone."

29. What are your strengths?

My strengths include a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the
ability to work under pressure. I am detail-oriented, which helps me ensure accuracy in my work.
Additionally, I have good communication and leadership skills, demonstrated through my roles in
various organizations. My commitment to continuous learning and improvement, as well as my ability to
balance multiple responsibilities, are also key strengths that contribute to my success.

30. How do you balance home life and work life?


"I balance home life and work life by prioritizing tasks and setting clear boundaries. I allocate specific
times for work and ensure I give my full attention to family responsibilities during non-work hours.
Effective time management and open communication with family members help maintain this balance,
ensuring both aspects of my life receive the attention they deserve."

31. Why should we hire you?

33. Tell me about your greatest failure.

My greatest failure was not achieving high honors due to an issue with a research subject during the
pandemic. We were submitting our work in hard copy to the school, and although I submitted my
output early, my teacher said she never received it. When I resubmitted, it was marked late, which
significantly affected my grade. I regret not fighting harder for it, as many scholarships require at least
high honors. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and advocating for myself in
difficult situations.

34. What are the three things your former manager would like you to improve on?

I haven't had a formal manager yet, but based on feedback from my involvement in councils,
organizations, and our family business, there are a few areas I am actively working to improve. People
have noted that I can be careless at times, prone to procrastination, and may get frustrated when
working under tight deadlines. To address these areas, I am focusing on becoming more detail-oriented
by double-checking my work and using checklists. I am also working on managing my time better by
planning and preparing ahead to avoid last-minute cramming. I am committed to making continuous
improvements and appreciate any feedback that helps me grow.

35. What is your dream job?

My dream job is to become a Certified Public Accountant, with a specific focus on auditing or internal
auditing. I am passionate about this field and am excited about the opportunities it presents for in-depth
analysis and contributing to organizational integrity and efficiency.

36. What are your career goals?

I have 3 goals I want to achieve in my career, 1st is to get hired with your company and become a
productive, truthworthy and reliable employee. 2nd goal is to regularly undertake training courses that
diversify my skills and empower me to become an expert in my area of specialism. And lastly, is to
eventually gain promotion within your company to a higher level.
37. Who do you consider as your mentor? What did you learn from him or her?

I consider my instructors and teachers throughout the years as my primary mentors. They have not only
taught me academic subjects but also imparted valuable life lessons that extend beyond the classroom.
Additionally, I believe that experience is one of the best teachers. The experiences I've gained, both
academically and in practical settings, have been instrumental in shaping my skills and perspectives.

38. What gets you up in the morning?

"What gets me up in the morning is the opportunity to be productive, make a positive impact,
whether it's through tackling new challenges, learning something new, or contributing to a team's
success. Knowing that each day brings new possibilities motivates me to start the day with
enthusiasm and purpose."

39. Would you work on holidays or weekends?

It depends on the situation. I am willing to work on holidays or weekends if it is necessary or in case of


an emergency. However, if the work can be completed during regular working hours, I would prefer to
spend my holidays and weekends with my loved ones.

40. What makes you uncomfortable in the workplace?

"What makes me uncomfortable in the workplace is when there is unclear communication or ambiguity
in expectations. I thrive in environments where there is transparency, clear direction, and open
collaboration among team members."

41. What do you like the most and the least about working in this industry?

What I like most about working in the accounting industry is the opportunity to solve complex financial
problems, ensure accuracy, and contribute to the overall integrity and efficiency of organizations. The
dynamic nature of the field, with its continuous learning and challenges, is particularly rewarding.

On the other hand, what I like least is the potential for high stress, especially during peak periods such as
tax season or financial audits. Balancing tight deadlines and detailed work can sometimes be
overwhelming. However, I view these challenges as opportunities to improve my skills and resilience.

42. Tell me a time when you went above and beyond the call of duty.

We were facing a tight deadline for a large order, and the printer malfunctioned unexpectedly. I stayed
late into the night, troubleshooting the issue and coordinating with a technician to get the equipment
fixed. Despite the challenges, I managed to complete the order on time, ensuring that our client
received their materials as promised. This extra effort helped maintain our business’s reputation and
strengthened client relationships.

43. Tell me about a time when you disagreed with your boss.

I haven't had a boss yet, but I recently faced a disagreement within an organization. At church, we
organized an event with a Mr. and Ms. PYD segment that included a Q&A portion. The PYCC president
suggested that the questions be impromptu to test the candidates' knowledge. I disagreed, concerned
that some candidates might back out due to fear of embarrassment, potentially creating trauma for
them. I addressed this with the council, explaining my perspective, and they ultimately agreed with
me, opting for prepared questions instead.

44. Tell me a time when you have handled an angry or irate customer?

In our small business, which offers financial services, there was an instance when a customer arrived at 2
a.m. and was extremely angry and shouting because he urgently needed to cash in to GCash so that he
could play online gambling or scatter. Since our business operates from home, his loud behavior woke
up my entire family. I addressed his needs promptly and provided the service he required. However, I
also calmly explained that we were closed at that time and requested that he avoid disturbing us outside
of regular hours in the future.

45. How do you spend your weekends?

My weekends are usually church days, with various councils and organizations I’ve attended in chuch,
weekends will never be boring nor that chill, since by this time, we would be conducting meetings, plans
for the upcoming events in the church. But if there’s no event at all, I would spend it with my family.

46. How would you fire someone?

To fire someone, I would prepare thoroughly by reviewing documentation and company policies. I
would conduct the meeting in a private setting, clearly explain the reasons for the termination, and offer
any available support or benefits. I would handle the situation with empathy, acknowledging the
employee's contributions and keeping the conversation professional. Finally, I would ensure all
administrative tasks related to the termination are completed.

47. What does success look like you?

To me, success looks like achieving my professional goals while maintaining a balanced and fulfilling
personal life. It involves excelling in my career, such as becoming a Certified Public Accountant and
continuously growing my skills and knowledge. Additionally, success means having positive
relationships, contributing to my community, and finding satisfaction in both my work and personal life

The greatest lesson I have learned so far is that everything happens for a reason and every rejection is a
redirection. This perspective has helped me stay resilient and open to new opportunities, understanding
that setbacks often lead to better paths and growth.

49. How do you manage strict deadlines?

"I manage strict deadlines by prioritizing tasks, breaking them down into manageable steps, and creating
a timeline. I regularly assess progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure timely completion.If ever Im
working in a team, Effective communication with team members and proactive problem-solving are also
key to meeting deadlines successfully.

50. How do build relationships with your co-workers?

I build relationships with my co-workers by being approachable and respectful. I actively listen to their
perspectives, collaborate on projects, and offer assistance when needed. Participating in team activities
and social events also helps foster camaraderie and build trust among colleagues."
