PROJECT ON HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
Definition of computer:

A computer is an electronic device that

accepts the data, stores data, processes the
data and then produces a result. It can
process the input data to give the desired
output according to the instructions we
give. A computer is made up of Hardware
and Software devices.
Components of Hardware and Software

A computer system is divided into two

categories: Hardware and Software. Hardware
refers to the physical and visible components of
the system such as a monitor, CPU, keyboard
and mouse. Software, on the other hand, refers
to a set of instructions which enable the
hardware to perform a specific set of tasks.
What is computer hardware?

Computer hardware is a term that

refers to all of the tangible and physical
components of a computer, meaning
that they can be touched and seen.
Computer software, conversely, cannot
to touched or seen because it is a
series of computer-written text and
instructions that allow a computer to
execute processes and functions.
Hardware Components
Computer hardware includes the physical parts of a
computer, such as the case, central processing unit
(CPU), random access memory (RAM), monitor, mouse,
keyboard, computer data storage, graphics card, sound
card, speakers and motherboard.

MOTHERBOARD
•Central Processing Unit (CPU)
A CPU is the hardware responsible for processing all the information from the programs run by a
computer. Gigahertz (GHz) is used to measure the speed at which a CPU processes information.
•Random Access Memory (RAM)
The hardware component found in the motherboard’s memory slots is known as RAM. It is
responsible for temporarily storing on-the-fly information formed by computer programs.
•Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
The primary data storage device of a computer is the HDD. The hardware component stores
software titles, operating systems, and files.
•Monitor
This familiar Keyboard component is the hardware that displays video or graphical information of
the computer. These are also termed video display units.
•Mouse
The hand-held pointing device used to navigate through the screen is a computer mouse. A
typical mouse uses optical sensors to direct the cursor.
KEYBOARD

• Like a type-writer, a keyboard allows a user to interact with the system. It is an input device
used to input characters, text and commands.
• Speakers
• Speakers are a specific output device utilised to listen to music, films, and other sounds.
Although they are accessible in a scope of various characteristics and costs, the more refined
forms have an extra subwoofer to improve bass results.
• Printer
• Printers are output gadgets that produce printed versions of electronic information put away
on the computer, for the most part as text or pictures on paper. The most widely recognised
current printers use inkjet or laser innovation and interface with the computer either utilising
the USB port or through WI-FI.
• Desktop image scanner
computer software
Software is a collection of programs
and data that tell a computer how
to perform specific tasks. Software
often includes associated software
documentation. This is in contrast
to hardware, from which the
system is built and which actually
performs the work.
system software

System software is a program

designed to run a computer's
hardware and applications and
manage its resources, such as its
memory, processors, and devices.
It also provides a platform for
running application software, and
system software is typically
bundled with a computer's
operating system.
Application software

An application program is a computer

program designed to carry out a
specific task other than one relating to
the operation of the computer itself,
typically to be used by end-users.
Word processors, media players, and
accounting software are examples
Programming software
Computer programmers use
programming software to write code.
Programming software and
programming tools enable
developers to develop, write, test
and debug other software programs.
Examples of programming software
include assemblers, compilers,
debuggers and interpreters.
Enterprise software

Enterprise software, also known

as enterprise application
software, is computer software
used to satisfy the needs of an
organization rather than its
individual users
Utility software

Utility software is a program specifically

designed to help manage and tune
system or application software. It is
used to support the computer
infrastructure - in contrast to
application software, which is aimed at
directly performing tasks that benefit
ordinary users.
Educational software
Educational software is a term
used for any computer software
which is made for an educational
purpose. It encompasses different
ranges from language learning
software to classroom
management software to
reference software. The purpose
of all this software is to make
some part of education more
effective and efficient
Differences between Hardware and Software
Hardware Software
Hardware is further divided into four main categories: Software is further divided into two main categories:
•Input Devices •Application Software
•Output Devices •System Software
•Secondary Storage Devices
•Internal Components

Developed using electronic and other materials Developed writing using instructions using a programming language

When damaged, it can be replaced with a new component When damaged it can be installed once more using a backup copy

Hardware is physical in nature and hence one can touch and see hardware The software cannot be physically touched but still can be used and seen

Hardware cannot be infected by Viruses The software can be infected by Viruses

Hardware will physically wear out over time Software does not wear out but it can be affected by bugs and glitches
