Limited Submission Opportunity: NSF

Limited Submissions occur when a sponsoring agency limits the

number of proposals an institution may submit for a given funding
opportunity. Because of these restrictions, and because some
opportunities attract broad interest within the university, the UM ORSP
follows a standardized internal competition process to select
proposals to submit on behalf of the University.

NSF's Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program (MRI Program

Website) serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and
engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our
Nation's institutions of higher education and not-for-profit
scientific/engineering research organizations. An MRI award supports
the acquisition of a multi-user research instrument that is
commercially available through direct purchase from a vendor, or for
the personnel costs and equipment that are required for the
development of an instrument with new capabilities, thereby
advancing instrumentation capabilities and enhancing expertise for
instrument design and fabrication at academic institutions. MRI
instruments are, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for
support through other NSF programs.

This award supports requests for up to $4 million from NSF for the
development or acquisition of multi-user research instruments that are
critical to the advancement of science and engineering.

ORSP will conduct a competition to select up to two Track 1 pre-

proposals, up to one Track 2 pre-proposal, and up to one Track 3
pre-proposal, for advancement into full proposals to NSF.

There will be a Zoom Info Session hosted by ORSP on June 5 at 11am.

NIH to Update RPPR
The Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) is a federally
mandated report format used across all agencies that provide research
grants and contracts. It’s used to document grantee accomplishments
and compliance with the terms of the award. The RPPR describe the
scientific progress, identifies significant changes, reports on personnel,
and describes plans for the subsequent budget period or year.

Effective October 1, 2024, NIH will be updating the RPPR instructions

to address the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. NIH will
implement new questions about updates on the status of data sharing
and repositories and unique identifiers for data that have been shared
for RPPRs submitted. For details, see the full Guide Notice.

UM Professor's Research Published in

American Journal of Criminal Justice

University of Mississippi associate professor

of criminal justice and legal studies, Francis
Boateng, conducted research to investigate
decisions about police officers who have been
arrested for engaging in criminal behavior.
Boateng partnered with Old Dominion
University professor Daniel Pryce to gain
insight into the complex factors that influence
decision-making in criminal cases against law
enforcement officers. Their results appeared
in the American Journal of Criminal Justice.

NSF Recording Available on Common

Forms
This April 25th, 2024 webinar covered NSF’s implementation of the
National Science and Technology Council-approved Common Forms
for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other)
Support. This session covered the policy behind NSF’s
implementation in the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures
Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 24-1). In addition, speakers from NIH/National
Library of Medicine provided a demonstration of the revised
capability to create and download these required proposal
documents in SciENcv.
