Plastic bags effect and solution

The demand for plastic bags has been increasing rapidly, causing a lot of dramatic consequences for both
animals and human life. Some people say that plastic bags should be banned to protect the environment. I
wholeheartedly support this perspective. This essay will discuss the effects of plastic bags on human health,
animals and the environment as well as introduce some solutions to reduce the use of plastic bags.
Firstly, using plastic bags causes the death of animals, especially aquatic animals like mosquitoes, whales,
dolphins, and penguins. They mistake plastic bags floating in the water as food and consume large amounts
of plastic because plastic cannot be digested and will accumulate in the animal’s stomach leading to the
animal’s death.
Additionally, plastic bags are non-biodegradable, they can take up to 2000 years to decompose completely.
However, plastic bags contain a great amount of toxic chemicals which can harm human health when people
consume food containing plastic resulting in certain cancers and diseases such as stroke, heart disease, and
diabetes.
Besides, the ban on plastic bags is considered extremely effective in saving water due to the plastic
production requires a lot of water. There is no need to waste water producing harmful plastics.
To reduce the demand of using plastic bags, people should replace plastic bags by using fabric bags for food
and clothing. Moreover, governments should encourage citizens to recycle plastics for other useful things or
reuse plastic bags frequently and use eco-friendly products in order to protect the environment. In
conclusion, I believe that the ban on plastic bags is a practical measure to help protect both the environment
and human health. It is crucial that individuals collaborate with governments to take more proactive and
sustainable actions to save the planet.

2. Students should pay the full cost for their own study, because university education benefits
individuals rather than society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent years, tuition fees have been increasing significantly, putting a strain on students. Some people
argue that students should pay the full cost for their own study because they have more benefits from
university education than society. I personally believe that it would be better if the government provided
funding for students.
Firstly, students would be more motivated to study better when they receive a scholarship from the
government. They will try their best in studying to achieve the reward, I think this is the best way to get
good educational performance and also reduce financial burden. Students can spend money for other
expenses such as rent, foodstuff, and transportation.
Besides, scholarships also provide an opportunity for poor students to pursue higher education and get a
successful career in the future. In some cases, low-income families are not able to afford tuition fees, but
their children are very gifted. By receiving funding from the government, these students have a chance to go
to university and contribute their talent to society.
Finally, it is undeniable that a well-educated population brings many benefits to society. Put another way,
society cannot develop without intelligent people who are innovative and productive citizens. To illustrate
this, well-educated people contribute the knowledge and skills to the sustainable development of their
countries. Furthermore, studies show that well-educated citizens can lead to lower crime rates and better
health outcomes.
In conclusion, due to the above-mentioned reasons, I believe that both individuals and societies have
numerous benefits from university education. Therefore, I think that the government should provide grants
for students to go to university in order to develop a well-educated workforce for sustainable development.
3. Many people say that we have developed into a “throw-away” culture, because we are filling
up our environment with so many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. To
what extent do you agree with this opinion and what measures can you recommend reducing
this problem?
The concept of a “throw-away” culture is becoming more prevalent/common in modern lives, accompanied
by the rapidly increasing of plastic bags resulting in the environment filled with rubbish. I totally agree with
this viewpoint along with many immeasurable consequences of waste affecting both human health and the
environment. However, there are some practical solutions to tackle this problem.
Firstly, due to the convenience and low cost of plastic bags, they are widely used in packaging food,
clothing and other products. Most people prefer single-use plastic products without considering the harmful
impacts on the environment in the long term. Besides, plastic waste is difficult to decompose, scientists
estimated that it can take up to 2000 years for plastic waste to completely break down.
As a result, these plastics accumulate in overflowing landfills, polluting the air, water, and soil. For
example, marine species often mistake plastics for their food and eat them, but plastics can be not digested
causing harm to their health and disrupting the balance of the marine ecosystem
To address this problem, I think one of the most effective methods is to promote reusable items.
Governments and organizations should encourage citizens to use reusable bags like fabric bags when
shopping or buying food. For instance, some markets have already offered discounts to customers who bring
their own bags.
Additionally, schools should educate students about the benefits of recycling and encourage them to
repurpose items like bottles, and cans into toys or flower vases. The countries should invest in recycling
infrastructure and make recycling more common and convenient for every person. Introducing bans on
using plastic bags can also contribute to eliminating environmental pollution.
Moreover, it is essential for people to replace plastic products with eco-friendly materials. Limiting plastic
bags in packaging is a significant step in protecting our environment. Governments should support research
and science to create alternative materials which are reusable and have few adverse effects on the
environment and human lives.
In conclusion, the “throw-away” habit of many people nowadays has been causing a lot of negative impacts
on both humans and the environment. I believe that individuals can change this habit and raise their
awareness as well as implement practical solutions to prevent pollution and build a sustainable and eco-
friendly society.
