Question 1. Explain different type of cable use in wire network
Answer:
1. Twisted pair cabling is a form of wiring in which pairs of wires (the forward and return
conductors of a single circuit) are twisted together for the purposes of canceling out
electromagnetic interference (EMI) from other wire pairs and from external sources.

2. Coaxial cables form a transmission line and confine the electromagnetic wave to an
area inside the cable between the center conductor and the shield.

3. A patch cable is an electrical or optical cable used to connect one electronic or

optical device to another for signal routing. Devices of different types (e.g. a switch
connected to a computer, or a switch connected to a router) are connected with patch
cables

4. An Ethernet crossover cable is a type of twisted pair Ethernet cable used to connect
computing devices together directly that would normally be connected via a network
switch, Ethernet hub or router, such as directly connecting two personal computers
via their network adapters

Question 2. Draw a diagram type of Topology

1. Bus Topology

2. Ring Topology
3. Star Topology

Question 3. List merite and demerite of bus Topology

Answer:
Merite of bus Topology

1. It is the easiest network topology for linearly connecting peripherals or

computers.
2. It works very efficiently well when there is a small network.
3. The length of cable required is less than a star topology.
4. It is easy to connect or remove devices in this network without affecting any
other device.
5. Very cost-effective as compared to other network topology i.e. mesh and star
Disadvantages of Bus Topology
1. Bus topology is not good for large networks.
2. Identification of problems becomes difficult if the whole network goes
down.
3. Troubleshooting individual device issues is very hard.
4. Need terminators are required at both ends of the main cable.
5. Additional devices slow the network down.

Advantages of Ring topology :

1. Equal access to the resources.
2. There is no need of server to control the connectivity among the nodes in the
topology.
3. It is cheap to install and expand.
4. Minimum collision.
5. Speed to transfer the data is very high in this type of topology.
6. Easy to manage.

Disadvantages of Ring topology :

1. If one workstation shuts down, it affects whole network or if a node goes down entire
network goes down.
2. It is slower in performance as compared to the bus topology
3. It is Expensive.
4. Difficult to troubleshoot the ring.
5. They were not Scalable.

Advantages of Star Topology

1. It is very reliable – if one cable or device fails then all the others will still work.
2. It is high-performing as no data collisions can occur.
3. It is less expensive because each device only needs one I/O port and wishes to be
connected to the hub with one link.
4. Each device requires just one port i.e. to attach to the hub.

Disadvantages of Star Topology

1. It Requires more cable than a linear bus.
2. It More expensive than linear bus topology due to the value of the connecting devices
(network switches).
3. If the hub goes down everything goes down, none of the devices can work without
the hub.
4. Hub requires more resources and regular maintenance because it’s the central
system of Star.
