SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9
Date and Time:
Quarter: FIRST
Week and Day Week 1, Day 3
Content The learners demonstrate understanding of how the
Standard: different structures of the respiratory and circulatory
systems work together to transport
oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the different parts of the
body
Prevention, detection, and treatment of diseases affecting
the respiratory and circulatory systems
Performance The learners should be able to conduct an information
Standard: dissemination activity on effective ways of taking care of the
respiratory and circulatory systems based on the data
gathered from the school or local health workers
LEARNING explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work
COMPETENCY together to transport nutrients, gases, and other molecules
and CODE to and from the different parts of the body; S9LT-la-b-26
I. Objectives: At the end of the session, the learners should be able to:
explain how the lungs work;
describe the importance of understanding how the
movement of diaphragm helps the air to go in and out of the
lungs; and
make Lung Model showing how respiratory system works.
II. LEARNING Lesson: Main Respiratory organ Lungs
CONTENT (Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Working with the
other Organ System)
Materials: TV
III. LEARNING References:
RESOURCES Learner’s Material: Pp. 4-5
Teacher’s Guide: Pp. 4
Textbook: Phoenix Biology 167-169
Other Learning Resource: Balloons, straws,
transparent plastic jar, rubber band
IV. PROCEDURE Preliminary Activity:
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of attendance
Setting Standards: Classroom rules and health protocols
Review: Review the organs of Respiratory system
Motivation: Students are task to the student will prepare the
different materials for the activity:
3 balloons
2 straws
1 transparent plastic jar 3 rubber bands
A. ACTIVITY Present the procedures of the activity.
The teacher explain and demonstrate how to make the
model of human chest cavity.
IThe students will perform activity 2 “Bottled Balloon”
B. ANALYSIS Q1. What does each part of the constructed lung model
represent?
Q2. What happens as you pull down the balloon at the
bottom of the model?
Q3. What happens as you push up the balloon?
Q4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause the air
to go in and out of the
lungs?
Q5. What might happen if you pricked the balloon?
C. ABSTRACTIO Let the students discuss how the movement of the
N diaphragm cause the air in and out of the lung
D. APPLICATION The students will point out the importance of living a
healthful life style through a Jingle or poem.
EVALUATION Students will do the activity “The Lungs”
ASSIGNMENT Directions: Students are tasked to answer:
1.What are the functions of the different parts of the
breathing system?

Activity 1 Bottled Balloons (A)

Materials: 1 two-liter empty plastic bottle 3 balloons (1 big, 2 small)
1 sturdy straw 1 pair of scissors 5 rubber bands\
Procedure:
1. Using a pair of scissors, cut the bottom out of the 2-liter plastic
bottle.
2. Create two holes that are apart from each other in the cap of the
plastic bottle. Make sure that each hole is just big enough for a straw
to fit through.
3. Stick the two straws through the two holes of the bottle cap.
4. Place one balloon on the end of each straw, and secure them with
rubber bands, as shown in the figure below.

Figure 3. The two straws with the balloons are inserted into the plastic bottle cap.

1. Stick the balloon ends of the straws through the

bottle opening and screw the lid on tightly.
2. Stretch out the larger balloon and place it over
the open bottom of the bottle. Secure it with the
rubber band as tightly as possible. Refer to the
diagram of the finished lung model below.
