National Learning Camp Enhancement
Proposal/Advocacy Activities

Introduction

The National Learning Camp (NLC) is a strategic initiative of the

Department of Education (DepEd) to improve learner outcomes and
enhance teacher competence. The NLC is a three- to five-week
program that is conducted during the End-of-School Year (EOSY)
break.

The NLC has two main objectives:

To improve learner outcomes by providing learners with additional

opportunities to learn and practice key concepts and skills.

To enhance teacher competence by providing teachers with

opportunities to collaborate with their peers, learn new teaching

strategies, and reflect on their practice.

The NLC has been implemented in the Philippines since 2023. In

the first year of implementation, the NLC was conducted for Grades
7 and 8 in English, Science, and Mathematics. In the following
years, the NLC has been expanded to include other grade levels
and learning areas.

Proposal

This proposal outlines a number of enhancements to the NLC that

would make it more effective in achieving its objectives. These
enhancements include:

Increased focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The

NLC should focus on developing learners' critical thinking and

problem-solving skills. These skills are essential for success in
school and in life.
More opportunities for collaborative learning. The NLC should
provide more opportunities for learners to collaborate with each

other and with their teachers. Collaborative learning is a powerful

way to learn and retain new information.
Use of technology to support learning. The NLC should use
technology to support learning. Technology can be used to deliver

instruction, provide feedback, and assess learning.

More attention to the needs of marginalized learners. The NLC
should pay particular attention to the needs of marginalized

learners. These learners may need additional support to succeed in

the NLC.

Conclusion

The NLC is a valuable program that has the potential to improve

learner outcomes and enhance teacher competence. The
enhancements outlined in this proposal would make the NLC even
more effective in achieving its objectives.

Narrative report: English

The national learning camp is a week-long program that provides
grade 7-12 students of Tanudan National High School with the
opportunity to learn about different aspects of English language
and literature. The camp is typically held at a summer camp, and
students participate in a variety of activities, such as workshops,
discussions, and field trips.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in enhancing the

national learning camp for grade 7-12 English. Some of the
proposed enhancements include:

Increasing the focus on writing: Many students struggle with

writing, and the national learning camp could provide an

opportunity to improve their skills. This could be done through

workshops on different writing genres, such as essays, stories, and
poems.
Increasing the focus on grammar: Grammar is another area where
many students struggle. The national learning camp could provide

an opportunity to learn about the basics of grammar, as well as

more advanced concepts.
Increasing the focus on literature: The national learning camp
could provide an opportunity to read and discuss classic works of

literature. This could help students to develop a deeper

understanding of literature and to appreciate its power.
Increasing the focus on technology: Technology is an increasingly
important part of our lives, and the national learning camp could

provide an opportunity to learn about how to use technology to

enhance English language learning. This could include workshops
on using computers, tablets, and smartphones to research, write,
and collaborate.

The enhancements listed above are just a few examples of how the
national learning camp could be improved. By focusing on these
areas, the camp could provide students with the skills and
knowledge they need to succeed in English language and literature.

Here is a specific example of how the national learning camp could

be enhanced for grade 7 English:
Workshop on writing persuasive essays: This workshop would teach
students how to write persuasive essays. Students would learn how

to identify a topic, gather evidence, organize their thoughts, and

write a clear and concise essay.
Discussion of the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird": This discussion
would focus on the themes of racism, courage, and justice in the

novel. Students would discuss the characters, plot, and setting of

the novel, and they would explore the ways in which the novel can
help us to understand these important themes.
Field trip to a local library: This field trip would give students the
opportunity to explore the library and to learn about the resources

that are available to them. Students would learn how to find books,
use the computers, and access online resources.

These are just a few examples of how the national learning camp
could be enhanced English. By focusing on these areas, the camp
could provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to
succeed in English language and literature.

The sun was shining brightly as the students arrived at the National
Learning Camp (NLC) site. They were all excited to participate in
the camp, which was designed to enhance their English skills.

The camp was held in a beautiful camp ground with a lake, a forest,
and a playground. The students spent the first day getting to know
each other and learning about the camp's rules and regulations.
Then, they began their English activities.

The activities were designed to be fun and engaging, and they

covered a variety of topics, including grammar, vocabulary,
reading, and writing. The students participated in games, puzzles,
and role-playing activities. They also had the opportunity to work
with experienced teachers who helped them to improve their
English skills.

In addition to the English activities, the students also participated

in a variety of other activities, such as swimming, hiking, and arts
and crafts. They had the chance to make new friends and learn
about different cultures.

The students really enjoyed the NLC, and they learned a lot about
English. They also made new friends and had a lot of fun. At the
end of the camp, they were all sad to leave, but they knew that they
had learned a lot and that they would be able to use their new
English skills in the future.

Here are some specific examples of the activities that the students
participated in:

Grammar games: The students played games that helped them to

learn about grammar concepts, such as subject-verb agreement and

pronoun case.
Vocabulary puzzles: The students worked on puzzles that helped
them to learn new vocabulary words.

Reading activities: The students read stories and poems, and they
then discussed the stories and poems with their classmates.

Writing activities: The students wrote stories, essays, and poems.

They also had the opportunity to get feedback on their writing from

their teachers.

The NLC was a great opportunity for the students to improve their
English skills. They learned a lot, and they had a lot of fun. They
also made new friends and learned about different cultures. The
NLC was a valuable experience for the students, and they will be
able to use their new English skills in the future.

The time at the NLC was also a great opportunity for the students
to develop their socio-emotional skills, personal growth, and
character development. They learned to work together as a team, to
resolve conflicts peacefully, and to be respectful of others. They
also learned about the importance of setting goals and working
hard to achieve them.
The NLC was a very successful program. The students learned a
lot, they had a lot of fun, and they developed important skills that
will benefit them in the future.
