Mobile Datalogger and Control System

Prepared by Ahmet OZMEN

Datalogger and control system based on NI Reconfigurable IO technology cRIO running a flexible generic embedded software, on fly managable by the user. For every type of sensors (LVDT, Gyroscope, Thermocouple, accelerometer, strain-gage, force and load measurement sensors and more.) could be included in the system and also any Industrial/Military communication buses and protocols (CANBus, LINBus, MIL1553,RS-485,Modbus, Profibus,DeviceNET, etc.).

Hereunder you can find an example system;

System Description
An example cRIO based datalogger system consists of following elements;

cRIO Controller 9081

High-performance multicore system for the most intense embedded control and monitoring applications 1.06 GHz dual-core Intel Celeron processor, 16 GB nonvolatile storage, 2 GB DDR3 800 MHz RAM LabVIEW Real-Time for determinism or Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 for VGA graphics 1 MXI-Express, 4 USB Hi-Speed, 2 Gigabit Ethernet, and 2 serial ports for connectivity, expansion 0 to 55 C operating temperature range

cRIO Thermocouple Module 9214

Isothermal terminal block (included) for measurement accuracy up to 0.45 C Several cold-junction compensation (CJC) sensors 250 Vrms channel-to-earth ground safety isolation Autozero channel for offset error compensation 24-bit ADC for up to 0.02 C measurement sensitivity J, K, T, E, N, B, R, and S types supported

cRIO Strain Based Pressure Module 9237

cRIO CAN Module 9861

1-port low-speed CAN interface (up to 125 kb/s) with onboard TJA1054 transceiver, externally powered NI-XNET driver for developing frame and signal applications in LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and C/C++ Integrated CAN databases for importing, editing, and using signals from FIBEX, .DBC, and .NCD files Synchronization and triggering with other NI CompactDAQ and NI CompactRIO modules Bundled software: NI-XNET driver, Bus Monitor, and Database Editor for Windows

cRIO 3G and GPS Module

The cRIO 3G module offers modern standards of telecommunication. Basing on 3G standard higher data transfer rates are reachable than using conventional GSM modules. The new 3G software allows you to update a DynDNS profile, so you can always access your module via a static internet address. Besides you have remote connection to the CompactRIO system via a VPN server. The 3G module additionally offers GPS function for position and time determination of CompactRIO systems.

Embedded Software Specifications

Embedded software has the following specifications; Channel Setup Channel setup page designed to adjust channel settings for every installed module. User can setup the system correctly according to the sensor types installed into the system.

Channel Calibration In this page user can adjust parameters of the sensors. For example if a pressure sensor installed on the system, its mV/V parameter should be entered to the system to have real-world data(i.e Bar, atm,psi..). Also if the system has an offset value it could be subtracted from the value to have a calibrated data.

Virtual Channel User can create any type of calculated channels by only entering text based formulas. Any channel inserted to this page could be viewed and logged as any other physical channel.

Measurement User can monitor any phsycal or virtual, calculated channel by 2 graphics.

Logging Configuration User can select any channel to log on the system. Only by clicking to the channel name (shown in red color) will be activate the channel for logging. User can create logging profiles for each test.

Data Logging During datalogging user can monitor the actual values, available disk space and elapsed time.

Embedded 3G Function cRIO system has a 3G modem module on the chassis. And this will connect to whole system to the internet.

Preferred remote monitoring topology is basic client and server connection. cRIO system will update the channel values periodically to a server rented or bought by customer premises, and the server will update the clients via internet. cRIO datalogger system does not provide server and server software.

Also clients can send calibration values to the system via internet. This function will be available on the cRIO system.

Offline Analysis With DIADEM

NI DIAdem is a single software tool that you can use to quickly locate, load, visualize, analyze, and report measurement data collected during data acquisition and/or generated during simulations. It is designed to meet the demands of todays testing environments, which require you to quickly access, process, and report on large volumes of scattered data in multiple custom formats to make informed decisions. DIAdem is a component of the NI Technical Data Management (TDM) solution.

Diadem is data mining, analysis and report generation software with: Ready to use data search and mining Easy, flexible access to databases and files Interactive analysis and report generation Automation through VBScript

DIAdem has flexible access to various data sources, which simplifies interdepartmental and intercompany data sharing. A data mining tool makes finding data as easy as using an Internet search engine. Versatile functions for data analysis and report creation and easy handling make DIAdem an ideal tool for everyday use. Key Data Mining and Management Features Mine data based on its descriptive attributes using the NI My DataFinder Use DataPlugins to load data files saved in any format Download common DataPlugins at ni.com/dataplugins Use the ASCII import wizard to generate DataPlugins Manage your imported and analyzed data with the DIAdem Data Portal Load and manage more than 100 billion data values in up to 65,535 columns simultaneously Import DAT, TDM, ASCII, binary, Excel, NI LabVIEW, LVM, DIF, EGV, ERG, LAX, GPX, NMEA, MME, TDF, RPC3, TEAC, nCode, ATF, MP3, WAV, and other file formats Navigate and load data directly from ASAM-ODS, NI VI Logger, the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module, and NI Lookout real-time databases Take advantage of standard read/write databases using the SQL, ODBC, ADO, and AOP (ASAM) protocols Export results to binary, ASCII, and Excel files and databases Create custom layouts to display data in a way that makes the most sense for you Synchronize data with video, 3D models, sound playback, GPS map displays, and more Correlate frames with measurement data, play back in real time, or move cursors interactively to compare data to video images Choose from 2D axis systems and data tables for data display Use zoom and scroll cursors to interactively inspect data Mark areas of data traces for copying, deleting, or curve fitting Use graph legends to display cursor-related data point values and data properties Create VIEW layouts with unlimited numbers of pages Visualize, zoom, scroll, and compare traces Save your VIEW layouts for future reuse

You can use DIAdem to extract necessary information from your test data in a uniform environment to help you make technical decisions. You search for the relevant data on your computer or on the network, navigate in data files and databases, and drag and drop the retrieved data into DIAdem. You view the loaded data to decide which data to run mathematical analyses on. You present the calculation results in a report which you can export to various graphics formats. Use the DIAdem recording mode to automate, without programming, recurring processes that you can then access "at the push of a button". This method reduces evaluation time and eliminates evaluation errors.
