10. Three types of innovations and only one drives strong economic growth
Innovation education has emerged out as a demanding subject to be mastered by young students.
With each passing day, as the jobs are getting limited owing to numerous reasons such as
technological advancements and population growth, Innovation option can be seen as a significant
career option among the current generation. Contributing significantly to economic growth,
Innovation also generates numerous job perspectives. As a result of which, it has always been
encouraged by intellectuals to motivate the young mind to start a business of their own. To make
the students aware of the possible benefits of being an entrepreneur, a basic Innovation program
should be incorporated in the regular curriculum as a mandatory subject. This initiative will not only
boost the interest of the students to go for personal business meanwhile ditching the traditional 9 to
5 jobs. This basic education will not only help them embracing any upcoming opportunities to be
successful entrepreneurs but also tackle the adversities successfully in the future.
Something vital is missing from our schools. If we really want to prepare students to be successful
in a 21st century global economy, we need to be teaching them Innovation.
Courses on Innovation have been available in higher education for years, and in recent years, have
appeared in more high schools. As with teaching a language, if we want this skill to become part of
a student's DNA, we must introduce it at the youngest possible age.
1. Enhances Creativity: Creative people always take a different approach to a problem and
that’s what makes a major difference. By encouraging creativity, innovation, and collaboration
the Innovation moulds the students into an abler individual strong enough to face the reality
of the outside world. Apart from the degrees and certifications, the students will have the
much-needed experience to start their journey in the market with a strong foundation.
2. Critical Thinking The ability to think critically is essential to your success in the world of
business. Unfortunately, it’s not something that is being nurtured in the traditional schools.
Why is this important? A company is not something bound to run smoothly forever, especially
today, when markets are more volatile than ever. Not to mention the harsh competition.
Learning Innovation exposes students to numerous opportunities to learn how to think
critically and analyse the pieces on the board. Being aware of all the important factors and
seeing how they affect each other is the foundation of a smart decision-making process.
This is not something that can be learned from a book. Students have to be exposed to real-
world examples and learn from their own experience.
3. Students need more opportunities for creativity, innovation, and collaboration in
schools. As testing and standards take over our education system, opportunities for students
to create, innovate, collaborate, and demonstrate proficiency or mastery in real-life ways
become scarcer. Innovation education not only encourages, but also requires students to be
creative, to innovate, and to collaborate with others.
5. Boosts Leadership Quality: The world is always in need of a good leader for guidance. The
students who are interested to make a difference will certainly succeed in paving a different
pathway. While learning about Innovation skills at a younger age, the students tend to
incorporate new skills and start thinking like a leader. Beneficial specifically for women
entrepreneurs, the leadership skills will compel them to create their own identity by mitigating
the existing gender gap in the corporate world.
6. Prepares the Students for an Uncertain Future: If we research a little bit, we can very
well realize that the jobs once existed decades ago, are nowhere to be found in the present
scenario. In the volatile and dynamic market, new technologies are advancing in each passing
day and the current generation is progressing towards a future without any certainty. They
might take years to master a particular trade or skill but with time it might disappear from the
market resulting in havoc in student’s careers. By learning about Innovation, one door will
always be open for venturing into, if the things do not turn out as expected.
Our world is changing rapidly and we are voyaging steadily towards a generation equipped
with more technical knowledge and advancement. The future belongs to the innovators and
leaders. Our education system needs to adapt accordingly. Basic Innovation programs will
emerge as a path-breaker and trend-setter proving quite a beneficial initiative for future
generations.
We can't predict the job market and economy our students will enter. Therefore, we really
can’t predict what content our students need in order to be successful after they leave our
schools. We know without a doubt, though, that our students need skills that will allow them
to navigate uncertain waters and chart their own paths. Innovation education teaches these
skills. Innovation education equips students to seek out problem-solving opportunities,
empathize with others, think creatively, take risks, accept failure as part of the growth process,
and appreciate the correlation between hard work and success.
7. Students need to learn how to identify problems or needs before they learn
problem-solving skills. Problem-solving has been all the rage in education for years. The
problem with the way we have traditionally taught problem-solving in schools is that problems
are already set up or defined by someone else (i.e., the teacher, the test writer, the textbook
company). In the real world, problems get fixed only when the problems have been properly
identified. Therefore, students need to learn both how to identify problems, and how to
identify and solve the right problems. If a student identifies a problem incorrectly or solves
the wrong problem, the solution to the problem has no value.
8. The world needs students who are looking to make a difference. This truth is self-
evident. Entrepreneurs, by definition, want to make a difference. In the business sense,
entrepreneurs seek to solve problems, meet needs, and ease pain or difficulty as a means of
selling products or services. In the social sense, entrepreneurs seek to solve problems because
of the impact ideas and solutions can make on human beings or on the environment. Either
way, students trained in Innovation education enter the world not only trained to identify
problems that need solving, but also determined to creatively solve problems, meet needs,
and make the world a better place.
The future belongs to the innovators and creators, and Innovation education serves as a great
incubator for the types of creative, innovative ideas our students and our world need in the
21st century.
9. Nurtures Personal Growth and Development Studying Innovation benefits students and
learners from different social and economic backgrounds because it teaches people to
cultivate unique skills and think outside the box. Moreover, it creates opportunity, instils
confidence, ensures social justice and stimulates the economy. Innovation education also
provides budding entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge to come up with business
ideas and develop their own ventures. And this includes helping them to learn about core
business areas such as finance, sales, marketing, management and accounting, not to
mention, broader ranging skills such as adaptability, effective communication, and confidence.
10. Tap into Unrealized Talents Standard education programs ranging from elementary
schools to universities are optimized to reflect the “education for everyone” model. While the
idea behind this movement is great and essentially good, it doesn’t mean that it brings out
the best in the students. Many students float away from their talents because they are pushed
to study maths, history, or the arts.
Learning Innovation is very different from learning anything else. The very concept of the
program is to help the students identify their strengths and talents and to work on improving
them.
11. Risk is Something to Live with Another important lesson that Innovation programs teach
students is that risk is something natural, something that we have to live with, and something
that has to be managed. There is no other school program that teaches this.
In fact, if we are being honest, most of us have been thought throughout our education that
we need to stay away from the risks and that certainty is the best path to take.
In the world of business, risk is a common occurrence. And to be able to succeed in it, you
have to work on your character traits – risk-taking and persistence. An Innovation program
fosters these character traits. This is why it’s beneficial for students when they find themselves
in a real-life situation.
