Rotary Attachment Instructions

The following procedure is very technical. Begin by following the instructions exactly. After you are comfortable
using the rotary fixture you may alter the method to simplify its use.

• You will need a cylindrical object, something to write

notes on, a caliper or ruler, the rotary attachment, screws,
and a 3.0mm Allen wrench.
• First lower the engraving table until it reaches its lower
limit. Remove the Honeycomb Cutting Table. Switch the
engraver off.
• Align the four holes on the engraving table with the holes
in the bottom plate of the rotary attachment. Insert and
tighten the screws, provided with the rotary attachment,
using the 3.0mm Allen wrench. Now attach the cable from
the rotary attachment to the connector on the engraver.

Screws

• Using your caliper or ruler measure the diameter of the

object and record the measurement. Be sure to measure
at the location in which you are engraving.

• You must change the page height in the software to

match the circumference of the cylindrical object. To

determine the needed page height you must open the
driver. Go to the Start menu, open the Printers and Faxes
window, right click on the driver for your laser engraver,
and click on Printing Preferences. Click on the page tab,
check the box next to Material Setup, and enter the
diameter value in the box below Diameter.
• Record the value next to Circum. Change the page height
(plate size) in your software to the Circum. value.
• Now place the cylindrical object in the rotary attachment.
Turn the switch, on the right of the rotary attachment, to
the off position. Slide the fixture attached to the switch to
the right until you have enough clearance to insert the
object. Slide the fixture against the object. Turn the switch
to the on position to lock the object in place. Under normal
circumstances the open end of the object will be placed
over the conical fixture on the left side of the rotary
attachment.
Other fixtures are available for smaller objects.

• Now you must verify that the ruler unit on the laser
engraver is set properly. From the initial menu scroll to 4.
SYSTEM SETUP, press Enter, Configuration, press Enter,
Ruler Unit, press Enter. If the unit is not set to the same
unit you use in the software, scroll to the proper unit and
press Enter. Press ESC until the display returns to the
initial menu screen.
• Using the manual focus tool, focus the engraver on the
object in the location you will be engraving.

• The following step will enable you to use the laser to
determine where the graphic should be placed on the
page. From the initial menu scroll to SYSTEM SETUP,
press Enter, Scroll to Status, press Enter. This screen
displays the location of the red pointer.
• Using the arrow keys move the focus carriage until the red
beam is on the left edge of the object. Record this value
as X1. Using the right arrow key locate the red beam at
the left edge of the engraving area and record this value
as X2. Locate the red beam at the right side of the
engraving area and record this value as X3. Locate the red
beam at the right side of the object and record this value
as X4.

X1 X2 X3 X4

• Setup guidelines in the software using the values

from the above step. Using the selection tool, move the
arrow to the vertical ruler on the left side of your
machine. Click, hold and drag to the center of your
screen. This should put a vertical guideline on the page.
Click on the guideline and change its X-value to the value
you recorded as X1. Repeat the above steps for X2, X3,
and X4.
• Prepare the graphic for printing. The guidelines in the
software correlate to the locations you took the values
from. In other words, the guideline on the far left
represents the left edge of your object. The guideline
between the two center guidelines (shown in grey for
instructional purposes) represents your engraving area.
The right guideline represents the right edge of your
object. When the item was placed in the rotary X1 X2 X3 X4
attachment it was rotated 90° so the image must also be
rotated in the software.

• Now go to print and configure the driver for the rotary

attachment. First set all of the settings in the driver as
you normally would for flat material then click on the
Page tab. If you have been using inches, make sure the
Imperial check box is checked. Check the box next to
Material Setup. Enter the diameter of the object in the
box below Diameter. At this time uncheck the Autoshift
check box. Set the X-axis drop-down box to 1000 DPI.
Set the R axis drop-down box to Normal DPI.
• From the printer properties window click OK. Click Print.
Select the job from the work display. Shut the door of the
engraver. Turn on the air-assist and exhaust-unit. Press
Run. The rotary attachment will begin rotate while the
focus carriage moves into position. If the image was
placed at the top edge of the page the rotary attachment
will not start rotating until the engraving begins.
• When checked, the Autoshift option causes the engraver
to begin engraving immediately without rotating the
object before. This option is useful when engraving
objects with handles.
• Some items may not be able to be engraved in the rotary
attachment due to size restrictions. Additional fixtures
and lenses are available for increasing the versatility of
the rotary attachment
