Details on the activities involved during the Induction Programme

1. On July 26th and 27th, 2024, the Induction Programme was held for B.Tech Information
Technology students and all Computer Science specializations.

2. This program introduced us to various infrastructural facilities, details of the grading


system, marking schemes, and the clubs and chapters at VIT that will support us in our
academic journey and future goals.

3. We got a sense of the academic and extracurricular activities planned for our time at the
college. We also had to take an English Proficiency Test on July 27th, which
familiarized us with the VTOP portal for exam details.

4. During the induction days, students were really busy attending various events and
programs organized by faculty and seniors to benefit us. We were introduced to
different authorities in both technical and non-technical areas and learned about the
various rules and regulations of the institution.

5. We learned about the educational culture at VIT and briefly about the Fully Flexible
Credit System (FFCS), which allows each student to create their own academic
experience. This feature helps maintain a student-friendly environment and encourages
effective learning. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, essential
for working in the industry.

6. They explained the hostel facilities in detail, describing VIT Vellore's hostels as "Home
away from Home." First, the rules for the girls’ hostel were outlined, including
attendance timings and entry rules for both the main and hostel gates. Then, the boys'
hostel rules were covered, including the leave approval process, types of leave, and
entry timings. We were also familiarized with the amenities available in the hostels.

7. An alumnus was also invited to guide the students.

Learnings during the General Induction Programme

1. Learned about VIT’s history, rankings, alumni success, and campus facilities.

2. Multicultural Environment: Recognized the diverse atmosphere created by students


from across the country.

3. Academic Offerings: Gained knowledge about UG and PG programs, emphasizing


academic flexibility.

4. Information on 2+2 and 3+1 programs that enhance global exposure.

5. Focus on Employability: Emphasis on skills development, critical thinking, and


extracurricular activities for career readiness. Also, awareness of free counseling
services provided by VIT for student well-being.

6. Sports and Facilities: Insights into sports activities, competitions, and resources
available at the Periyar Central Library.

7. About the relative grading system in VIT:

8. Hostel and Support Systems: Overview of hostel facilities and the Proctor-Proctee
relationship to maximize campus resources and how a proctor acts as a third parent for
a student in VIT.

9. Collaborative Partners: Involvement of institution heads, faculty mentors, student


council members, senior students, alumni, and distinguished guests in the induction
process.

10. Vice-Chancellor's Address: Emphasized VIT's vision of "Transforming lives through


excellence in education and research," highlighting student opportunities in clubs,
chapters, and TBI.

11. Chancellor's Address: Spoke on VIT’s history, encouraged students to approach faculty,
and motivated them for the academic journey.

12. Student Welfare & Academics: Overview of hostel rules, academic schedule, credit
system (162 credits required for graduation), and course management (withdrawals, re-
exams, re-registration).

13. Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS): Allows course customization, flexible timetables,
minor/honors pursuit, and accommodates extracurricular activities. It was further
described in detail in the School Orientation on the next day.

Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS)


To be done starting 2nd semester.
Students can prepare their own timetable and academic plan.
Select courses and timings as per preference, within credit limits.
Option to add or drop courses within the first three instructional days of the

Learnings from ‘Do-it-Yourself’ activities

VIT promotes hands-on learning through DIY (Do-It-Yourself) activities,


encouraging innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.

Students work on projects that combine theory and practice, including:


Building prototypes
Coding robots
Designing electronic circuits

DIY activities help students develop:


- Critical thinking
- Teamwork
- Resourcefulness

VIT's makerspaces, labs, and workshops provide advanced tools and


mentorship, enabling students to bring their ideas to life.

Initial learnings and opportunities for self-development

VIT focuses on getting the best out of its students and as a result all required
resources are provided by the university to the students.

Many events, workshops, and related programs that take place every now and
then benefit the students in many ways by allowing them to showcase their
talents as well as exploring many and at the same time learning new things
every day.

These events also provide exciting rewards and certificates upon completion,
which is great for our future as we can add those certificates to our Resume
and CV and have a head start advantage during placements. Online Courses:
Students can take online courses and earn certificates, enhancing their
resumes.

VIT organizes various hackathons as part of club activities, helping students


develop essential skills.

The Semester Abroad Programme (SAP) enables students to study abroad for
a semester at an international institution partnered with VIT, with funding
provided by the university.

The university hosts numerous events, workshops, and related programs that
benefit students by allowing them to showcase their talents while exploring
new subjects and learning every day. These events also offer exciting rewards
and certificates upon completion, which enhance resumes and provide a
competitive advantage during placements. Additionally, students can take
online courses to earn further certificates.

Effective communication is vital in friendships, allowing partners to share


interests and feelings while respecting each other's independence and
decisions.

Students are required to complete internships during summer breaks to build


work ethics and understand company operations.
