V. Assessment Tasks

In this assessment, you are to see the actual application of technology on the different aspects
of daily life, such as: music, sports, blog, film, entertainment and other medias.

I. Answer the following questions:

1. Enumerate the seven identified major trends of Forbes.com. Give a brief discussion in each
trend.

1. IoT and smart home technology- IoT home automation is the ability to control domestic
appliances by electronically controlled, internet-connected systems. It may include setting
complex heating and lighting systems in advance and setting alarms and home security
controls, all connected by a central hub and remote-controlled by a mobile app.

2. Augmented reality and virtual reality- Augmented reality (AR) augments your surroundings by
adding digital elements to a live view, often by using the camera on a smartphone. Virtual reality
(VR) is a completely immersive experience that replaces a real-life environment with a
simulated one.

3. Machine Learning- Machine learning is a subfield of artificial intelligence, which is broadly

defined as the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behaviour. Artificial
intelligence systems are used to perform complex tasks in a way that is similar to how humans
solve problems.

4. Automation- Automation is the creation and application of technologies to produce and deliver
goods and services with minimal human intervention. The implementation of automation
technologies, techniques and processes improve the efficiency, reliability, and/or speed of many
tasks that were previously performed by humans.

5. Big data-Big Data is a collection of data that is huge in volume, yet growing exponentially with
time. It is a data with so large size and complexity that none of traditional data management
tools can store it or process it efficiently. Big data is also a data but with huge size. The goal of
big data is to increase the speed at which products get to market, to reduce the amount of time
and resources required to gain market adoption, target audiences, and to ensure customers
remain satisfied.

6. Physical-digital integrations- they identify their physical elements and create digital data for
more efficient operation and back-up. The concept of having a “paperless company” in which
transactions, reports, and services are done using automated systems is one such example.
7. Everything on demand- due to prevalence of network connectivity, it is possible to have
information on demand. Music, movies, and even drivers (e.g., Grab) are made available
through the apps in a smartphone.

2. What is the example of input, and output devices? Give its importance.

An input device is a computer part that allows the user to enter information into the computer.
Input devices include the keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone, joystick, trackball, touch pad,
touch screen, and light pen. An output device is a computer that allows information to come out
of the computer. The output can be seen or heard. Output devices include speakers,
headphones, monitor, printer, plotter, and speech synthesizer. The importance of this Input and
output devices is that it has allowed the computer system to interact with the outside world by
moving data into and out of the system.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of media, blog and messenger? Define each.

Media

Advantages

 Media allows cultural diffusion among people from different parts of the world.

 Media provides up-to-date information about various topics around the world in very short
time.

 Through media, individuals get a platform to exercise their talents and improve themselves.

 Media acts as a source of knowledge for people who want to learn about various
disciplines.

Disadvantages

 Creating fake profiles and sending threats or bullying or such acts can ruin the mental
health and reputation of targeted individuals.

 Some media unsuitable for children can be hard to access.

 Media use has increased the graph of cyber crimes and fraudulent activities.

 Using electronic media or media in general can be addictive.

Blog

Advantages

 Enables you to write down your thoughts on anything that interest you.

 Easy to set up: don’t need much technical knowledge

 Easy and quick to update or add new posts.

Disadvantage

 Whatever you publish is available for everyone to see. if you write a post in anger to might
regret later

 personal blogs may be based or contain inaccurate information

 There are many very dull blogs around. you may have to look at many before you find some
worth reading.

Messenger

Advantages

 Allows you to chat in 'real time' to other people who also have an IM client.

 IM allows you to get on with other things and yet be in touch real time with connected
friends and colleagues

 Useful for customer support contact instead of having to phone a support line.

Disadvantage

 As it is immediate, you have no time to reflect on the message you are sending, unlike an
email where you can review the draft before sending.
