Dear Kah,
1. Below is a breakdown of the sequence of events explaining the delayed shipping of the sewage
treatment plants to Conakry.
2. You sent us the Rio Tinto booking request for the MSC radiant, REFEBK05896907, on the 7th of June
2023, which was a booking request and not a firm booking confirmation. This had stack dates of the 8th
to the 12th of June and an ETD from Durban 15 June 2023. We then asked our shipping agent to try and
firm the booking on this ship which was not possible due to the time left before the stacks opened and
space availability on the MSC Radiant.
3. We then asked our shipping agent to check availability on the next available ship, the MSC Alanya. The
MCS Alanya had a more direct route to Conakry only stopping in Lome before arriving in Conakry, and
should have arrived in around the same time as the MSC Radiant originally planned. In a telephone
conversation between you, Tony from Rio Tinto and myself, we agreed to make the booking through
our agent while Rio Tinto Simfer also tries to make a booking from their side. We would then cancel
our booking should Rio Tinto’s booking be confirmed.
4. The booking made by our shipping agents on the 13th of June was confirmed for the MSC Alanya with
original stack dates of the 24th to the 27th of June with a departure date of the 2nd of July. Aminatou,
the team from Rio Tinto Simfer and myself had a meeting on the 14th of June where we agreed to
continue with our booking for the MSC Alanya.
5. Due to events out of our control, the stack dates for the MSC Alanya were moved out daily over the
next 13 days due to bad weather in Durban and finally went firm from the 5th to the 8th of July and ETD
Durban 12th of July.
6. The above delays were firstly caused by the Rio Tinto Simfer booking not being confirmed and secondly
the weather delays from Durban Port which are out of our control.
7. I have requested a letter from the Shipping agents explaining the weather disruptions in Durban port
as well as stating the original arrival date for both the MSC Radiant and the MSC Alanya in Conakry.

Your faithfully,
