I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature and other
text types serve as means of preserving unchanging values in a changing world; also, how
to use the features of a full-length play, tense consistency, modals, active and passive
constructions plus direct and indirect speech to enable him/her competently performs in
a full-length play.
B. Performance Standard:
The learner competently performs in a full- length play through applying effective
verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the following criteria: Focus,
Voice, Delivery and Dramatic Conventions.
C. Learning Competencies:
Judge the relevance and worth of ideas, soundness of author’s reasoning, and the
effectiveness of the presentation
D. Enabling Objectives:
1. Recognize the meaning of author’s reasoning,
2. Participate in class discussion by reading and answering questions; and
3. Construct a statement based on their learnings in today’s discussion.

A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson


“My Word, Your Thoughts”
The teacher will present words that were discussed last meeting. It would be
presented using visual aids or through a PowerPoint presentation. The students are to
share their thoughts regarding the word being presented to test whether they can still recall
their learnings about the last discussion.

B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson


“Head, Shoulder, Knees, Toes, Shoe!”
Relative to what will be the discussion is, the teacher will prepare some words
written to a piece of paper. The task is to play a game first titled, ‘Head, Shoulder, Knees,
Toes, Shoe!’. The mechanics of the game is to have volunteers to play the game, there
should be 20 players; 10 players make one group. Players must be in a line form facing the
other group while there is a shoe in between each of them. The game will begin once the
teacher starts saying which part of their body they will be putting their hands on. The game
will continue until four players per group remained. Whoever loses will be the one sharing
their thoughts about the word they would pick.

C. Presenting Examples/Instances of the Lesson


The teacher will present a picture on the screen and the students are to cite three
reasons about the question being asked. Have them give their insights about the
illustration. Once done, the teacher will proceed on introducing the new topic to be
discussed.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1


The teacher will discuss the meaning of the terms, ‘Claim’, ‘Counterclaim’,
‘Soundness’, ‘Evidence’, and ‘Author’s Reasoning’ as well as how to classify the author’s
reasoning through a PowerPoint presentation.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 2


The teacher will present a paragraph and the students will identify which sentence
states the claim and which are the sentence/s that support/s the claim and if it is valid
evidence. Once identified, the students are to organize it through a graphic organizer
{table illustration or others) which will be written on their notebook. Some students will
be called to share their work and have them explain why they came up with their answers.

F. Developing Mastery
Have the class group themselves into 5. The teacher will provide a copy of a
selection. The group leader or one of the members will be reading the selection and then
each member is encouraged to cooperate by answering the guide questions on a ½ sheet
of paper individually which will also be passed to the teacher as a proof of cooperation.
The final output will be written on a craft paper. Have it presented in front by two of the
members each group. They will be given 5 minutes and 2 minutes extension if ever they
still need more time. They will be graded using the rubric below.

G. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living


The students are to answer the question:

author’s ideas and beliefs are true before we agree to what is he/she saying?

H. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson


The teacher will ask for volunteers to generalize the lesson discussed as well as their
learnings by completing the statement:

understanding of the learners.

J. Assignment
Have an advance reading of the transcript of former US President Barack Obama’s
Speech and find out and take note of what are the issues he presented in his message to
the people.
