SUBJECT: RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SEMINAR In each B.Tech program during 8th semester there are courses like Seminar. Following rules are made for their conduct and evaluation: SEMINAR: Aim The purpose of the Seminar is to enable students familiar with communication skills. The students are expected to learn the following aspects: (a) How to make a presentation Verbal / LCD based power point (b) How to write a report including abstract, body, conclusions, executive summary etc. (c) To be better involved in group discussion by sharing the work with a group. The students will select a topic of importance in consultation with the concerned Course Coordinator (CC) and they are expected; (i) to prepare a detailed report as per the guidelines enclosed as annexure - I. (ii) to present the topic verbally in about 30 minutes. Seminar Evaluation: The Seminar shall be evaluated under the following two heads, namely: (i) Continuous Evaluation (ii) End Semester Examination 60% Component 40% Component
Continuous Evaluation: The CC of the seminar shall be responsible for the conduct of seminars and continuously evaluate the students. Various components for evaluation shall be as follows: (a) Topic of Seminar (b) Attendance in Seminar Classes (c) Seminar Report 10% 20% 30%
End Semester Examination: End Semester Examination should be conducted jointly by concerned CC and examiner appointed for this purpose by Honble President out of the University teachers preferably having M.Tech degree in the same field. The components of End Semester Examination shall be as follows: 1

The Seminar shall be evaluated through report submission(s), Presentation(s), and the Viva-voce examinational (s). The Component(s) are the following: 1. Seminar report evaluation - 60% Component (a) Relevance of the subject (b) Problem Discussion (c) Literature Survey (d) Conclusions and scope of future work Total 2. PAGE DIMENSION AND BINDING SPECIFICATIONS: The dimension of the seminar report should be in A4 size. The project report should be hard bound using flexible cover of the thick art paper. Two copies of the report (hard copy only) should be submitted.
TYPING INSTRUCTIONS: One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general text. The general text shall be justified and typed in the Font style Times New Roman and Font size 12. Subheading shall be typed in the Font style Times New Roman and Font size 12 and bold. Heading shall be typed in the Font style Times New Roman and Font size 14 and bold.

PREPARATION FORMAT: Cover Page & Title Page A specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page of the s e m i n a r report are given in Appendix 1. Abstract Abstract should be one page synopsis, it should summarize the aims, conclusions and implications of the topic of your seminar, typed with double line spacing, Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 14. Table of Contents The table of contents should list all material following it as well as any material, which precedes it. The page numbers of which are in lower case Roman letters. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head. A specimen copy of the Table of Contents of the project report is given in Appendix 2. 3

Chapters The chapters may be broadly divided into 3 parts (i) Introductory chapter i.e. developing the main theme of the topic (ii) Literature review of the topic selected (iii) and Summary or Conclusions The main text will be divided into several chapters and each chapter may be further divided into several divisions and sub-divisions. Each chapter should be given an appropriate title. Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the reference where they are cited.

Appendices Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which is included in the main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme. Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc. Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered and referred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters. Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be made in the contents page also.

List of References The listing of references should be typed 2 spaces below the heading REFERENCES in alphabetical order in single spacing left justified. Should be numbered consecutively (in square [] brackets, throughout the text and should be collected together in the reference list at the end of your report. The references should be numbered in the order they are used in the text. The name of the author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other details.
