4 As DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Grade 7 ENGLISH

I. LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the lesson, students are able to:

a. complete the title of the short stories based on the given word pictures;
b. organize the sequence of events in the given story by presenting it;
c. appreciate the importance of the five elements of Short Story;
d. compose own short story by applying the five elements.

b. References: English Quarter 3 – Module 7: Elements of the Short Story
c. Resource Materials: Cartolina, Manila Paper, and Printed Materials.
d. Integration of Values: Knowing the importance of elements in making a
short story more creative and imaginative.

Our lesson last meeting was about Distinguishing
Fiction and Non-Fiction.

What is fiction again? Fiction is a literary work based on imagination.

Direction: Let’s have a game called "Guess
me?" In this game, students will guess the
given word-picture to complete the given
short stories title.

These are all short stories, are you
familiar with the story of “The Lion and
the Mouse?” Yes Ma’am!

What was the beginning of the story? The Lion was sleeping under the tree and
a little saw him and played at lion’s tale,
then the lion suddenly got mad.

today we will discuss the “ELEMENTS OF
SHORT STORY” This topic will surely help
you to have a deeper understanding on about
the importance of these elements in making a
story.

II. LESSON PROPER

a. Activity
“ARRANGE ME”
You will be grouped into two groups. The two
groups will have an activity named “ARRANGE
ME!.” In this activity, you have to Arrange or
organize the sequence of events in the short story ERNESTO AND THE FAIRY
provided by the teacher. Each group will be given
cut-out story events that they need to arrange in
order to complete the short story. I will give you
three minutes to do your group task.

(Teacher will read the story)

b. Analysis
For me to check if you are able to identify the
pictures given, let me pick a random printed
picture and tell me which category does it belong.
(Students will perform)

c. Abstraction
Our lesson for today is Elements of Short Story.
Before digging deeper to the lesson, let’s discuss
the terms “Elements” and “Story”.

What word can you think of when we talk about


“Elements”? (students’ answers may vary)

What comes first to your mind when you heard


the word “story”?

Today, we will focus on the Five (5) Elements of


Short Story

Five Elements of Short Story


1. Characters
- are the people who are involved in the story.
Characters can be major or minor.

2.Settings
- The setting of a story gives us important
information such as:
• When the story is taking place
• Where the story is taking place
• What environment the story is
occurring in
- It sets the mood and helps us guess what
might happen in the story.
3. Plot
- The order of events that make up a story.

4. Point of View (POV)


• refers to who tells the story, and how they
tell it.
-The narrator can tell the story from the third-
person point of view and First-person Point of
View.
Third-person POV
- Third-person narrators use the pronouns he,
she or it.
First-person POV
- are part of the story and are telling it the way
that they see it.
- First-person narrators use the pronoun I.

5. Theme
- The central meaning or idea of the story;
the moral of the story.

We cannot make a story without these elements
since every story needs characters and details such
us time, place, and environment. The sequences
are also important for the readers to clearly
understand the events and scenes.

Exactly, that means every element has a big role


in creating an effective short story.

d. Application

“It’s Practice Time!”


Let’s have a short story activity.

Mechanics:
• Group yourselves into three groups.
• The groups will make short story (Apply
the Five Elements.
• The group leader will gather ideas from
the members for 3 minutes.
• Then, the representatives will read their (Students’ will perform)
output.

Rubrics:
Delivery - 10 pts
Teamwork - 5 pts
Creativity – 5pts
Total - 20 pts

The teacher will give feedback after the activity.

III. EVALUATION
