ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I want to sincerely thank Gordon College, the heads, and the
committed CEAS faculty for giving me this chance to begin this
insightful field study. This experience has given me the chance to
observe the realities of education as a teacher and the school system
in general. I truly appreciate all of that and this journey has taught
me and the personal development I had.

I would like to thank Ma'am Agnes for being our social studies leader
and mentor during our academic journey. Her consistent support and
inspiration have carried us through the early phases of our journey
and have now brought us to the edge of reaching what we want to
achieve.

I would like to thank Olongapo City National High School, the school
that molded me in junior high and for now, being a key player in my
career as a student-teacher. I would also like to express my gratitude
to the non-teaching staff members who helped us along the way by
sharing a variety of information and experiences, offering support,
and encouraging us as we entered the teaching profession.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Ma'am Arlene, my

cooperating teacher, for her constant help, encouragement, and
direction. She inspired me to keep going and enjoy what I do while
also sharing her insightful teaching techniques and experiences with
me.

Finally, I would want to thank my family from the bottom of my

heart for their constant moral support during this journey. I also
acknowledge God as the one who has guided me to become a teacher.
These people's combined support has greatly influenced my route and
personal growth.
INTRODUCTION
Every teacher's journey is a unique journey filled with
experiences that shape both personal and professional growth. My own
expedition led me to Olongapo City National High School, a vibrant
institution where education takes center stage. As we embark on this
exploration, the following portfolio serves as a guide, inviting you to
discover the inner workings of this school. Beyond the physical
structures and academic programs lie a plethora of observations,
learning experiences, and the profound impact of interactions with my
cooperating teacher and the dedicated non-personnel staff. This portfolio
serves as a compass, guiding us through the multifaceted aspects of the
school, from the hallowed halls to the invaluable interactions with
various stakeholders.

This experience as a student teacher has been both challenging

and immensely rewarding. Teaching as a student teacher is a dynamic
learning experience. It involves applying theoretical knowledge in a real
classroom, collaborating with experienced educators, and actively
engaging with students. This hands-on approach allows for the
development of practical teaching skills, the navigation of diverse
learning needs, and the observation of effective instructional strategies.
Overall, it is a transformative journey that combines academic learning
with the invaluable insights gained from direct classroom involvement.

Teacher’s dedication and efforts of modern teachers who

wholeheartedly embrace diversity deserve our utmost appreciation.
Teachers, often overlooked heroes in our learning journey, play a crucial
role in shaping our minds and futureTheir unique ability to inspire and
encourage us, even when dealing with personal struggles. Teachers are
like the solid foundation of our education, acting as both architects of
knowledge and character builders.Going beyond textbooks, teachers
share valuable life lessons and instill values that extend far beyond the
confines of the classroom. As we acknowledge their unwavering
commitment to navigating the challenges of the contemporary world, let
us express our gratitude for their role in fostering inclusive, innovative,
and enriching educational experiences for all.

OLONGAPO CITY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

HISTORY
Olongapo City National High School began as a Reservation High School on
June 3, 1946, when the municipality of Olongapo was still administered by the
United States Reservation Administration. It began as the Reservation High School
with an initial enrollment of 320 students under the United States (US) Naval
Reservation Administration during the height of Filipino rehabilitation from World
War II. For a time, it was known as JK Jackson High School, after US Reservation
Commander Captain JK Jackson, who was the senior officer in charge at the time of
its establishment. It eventually became Olongapo High School, but it was still
administered by the US Naval Reservation. As the municipality of Olongapo grew and
prospered as a result of economic activities brought about by the expansion of the US
Ship Repair Facility (SRF) and other port and military services during the Korean
War, the demand to turn over the town to the Zambales Provincial government for
additional provincial revenues grew stronger. The municipality and Olongapo High
School were officially turned over to the provincial government in 1959 under the
1954 United States-Republic of the Philippines Military Base Agreement. Following
the passage of Republic Act 4645, which converted the municipality of Olongapo into
a chartered city on June 1, 1966, the school was renamed Olongapo City High School.
In September 1972, the school was renamed Olongapo City National High School, and
it still bears that name today. It provides a variety of curricula for high school
students designed to foster individual learning inclinations and interests, discover
talent in journalism and creative arts, learn foreign languages, and instill discipline
in sports and physical sciences. It also welcomes non-traditional educational
programmes such as distance learning and special education.

I had the privilege of being under the guidance of Ma'am

Arlene G. Mercado during my high school years when she taught
me in grade 10. The dynamics have shifted since then, as I now
find myself in the role of her student-teacher. Interestingly, I've
observed a noticeable difference in her teaching approach, with
her displaying a stricter demeanor compared to my time as her
student.
During my class observations with her, Ma'am Arlene has
been exceptionally supportive, providing valuable guidance and
mentorship. She consistently imparts essential advice on the dos
and don'ts of teaching, and I diligently take note of all the insights
she shares. Throughout my experience, she has demonstrated trust
by allowing me access to her resources. Ma'am Arlene also
consistently encourages me, emphasizing that I have the potential
to excel in teaching when the time comes. Overall, my experience
with her has been enriching and has contributed significantly to
my growth as an aspiring educator.
learners
I strongly believe that every child possesses the
ability to learn and a natural curiosity. Their
surroundings shape them, and each child is a unique
individual with a lively mind. As a student-teacher, my
aim is to boost each child's self-esteem by guiding them
towards success in school. I share my knowledge to help
them apply what they learn, consistently grow, and
reinforce their values.
I prioritize hands-on experiences both inside and
outside the classroom, recognizing that students may
exhibit different behaviors at home due to their diverse
cultural and family backgrounds. Understanding these
differences is crucial in cultivating motivation, as each
class and student is distinct. I will design activities that
promote overall development and focus not only on what
to learn but, more importantly, on how to learn.

I attended six sections, including the advisory

class, comprising five Grade Ten classes and one Grade
Nine class. The students follow different curricula,
namely BEP (Basic Education Program) and SPTVE (ICT
Curriculum). The Grade Ten sections are BEP-Diamond,
Peridot, Alexandrite, and Onyx, with the SPTVE section
being Gigabytes. The Grade Nine section is Fidelity. The
advisory class, G10-Alexandrite, had distinct mentalities
due to the diverse curricular frameworks.

teaching
strategies
My cooperating teacher employs varied teaching methods based on the
specific classes we engage with, namely, grade 10 and grade 9 students. I
observed that the initial discussion before our deployment highlighted a
collaborative sharing of instructional materials among teachers and
faculties. This practice ensures that each teacher typically focuses on and
teaches a specific lesson.
I have noticed that my cooperating teacher tailors her instructional
approach depending on the students' critical thinking abilities. When
dealing with classes that may not excel in academic discussions, she adapts
her techniques. She employs both student-centered and teacher-centered
approaches, employing diverse methodologies. Regardless of the class, I
consistently observe the integration of technology in her teaching methods.

assessment
methods
The assessments employed by my cooperating teacher are sourced from
the learners' module, aligning with the diverse strategies tailored for
distinct sections. Recognizing the varying aptitudes of learners, she adapts
her approach to accommodate differences in proficiency, with some
students demonstrating a higher level of engagement, while others exhibit a
more passive disposition. A preferred assessment method involves
traditional pen-and-paper tests, a choice that is complemented by the
incorporation of performance-based outputs.
instructional
material
In certain classrooms at our school, the availability of a television makes
it a primary and regular instructional tool for teachers. Capitalizing on this
resource, my cooperating teacher consistently creates engaging videos,
visuals, and PowerPoint presentations to enhance the learning experience,
particularly benefiting those who are visual learners. In addition to the
television, a variety of visual aids, including manila paper, cartolina, and
other materials, are employed to diversify instructional approaches.

Student's Interview Summary

From the different section most of grade 10 learners I

interviewed their personal life as a student was busy and they see
that schooling was hard. They are bombarded with task and
activities. They answer almost the same though they are in
different curriculum. They are all in stressful years for them since
they are graduating. They are all in higher sections that's why they
have to keep up with the image of being a higher section. Since all
of them have task during the week of interview all of them
answered that they do one at a time task so that they can pass on
time. They have friends to rely on for their problems when needed.
They had different activities and hobbies such as reading book
(fantasy, self-help book), playing basketball, cooking, interest in
education, singing and dancing. They had plan of being a successful
someday, to be a flight attendant, seaman, a social studies teacher,
accountant, a model and police officer. They different motivation
such as "BAO", their loved ones (mother, father, girlfriend,
friends). If they encounter problems they pray and ask help for
God and most of them rant to their friends.

When it comes to their environment they rooms themselves. All of

them attended online class but prefer to have a face to face class.
They had access to internet such as pldt and mobile data.
INTERVIEW WITH
LEARNERS
Their gadgets mostly our mobile phone and two of them
have their laptops during online class. During online class they
encountered problems such as need to do a house chores when
having classes, noise from background, messy places, and lastly
sharing of internet connection. They say it helps them to focus
more using instrumental music, turning off phone updates, quiet
place, seeing nature, and praying.

Their social engagement almost the same answers like in venting

and hanging out with friends. They are all pressured specially to
their family since they are higher sections I understand what they
are going through that's why during my interview I encourage
them and let them know what things should I do if I would go back
to my g10 self. And it's overwhelming that I made them smile
through my kind words. But some of their family background have
their fullest support (financially) even they are supported with
money they are not supported morally. That's why having this
interview making me realized that I should understand their
family background in context with financial and moral. They are
all pressured, it is sad but that's what they experienced and felt.
That's why their friends help them through advices, bonding with
them and I noticed that they have a good relationship with friends
than to their family. They have their trust with friends (with
whom they really trust). Their worst battle is their selves and time
management. The good thing hearing their answers they are all
self-aware and accountable for their actions. Time management is
their enemy which most of them answered.

For the classroom, not all of them are active in class particularly
in recitation. But they are all able to passed every task, activities,
practices and things needed in school. If they were given a chance

given a chance to be a teacher they like to make games as an
activity, poster making, debates, singing, smart talks, competitive
talks, speech, roleplay and use of computers. They don't want
solving in general, also they are engaged when there is songs,
dancing, and arts. They like subject such as TLE, MAPEH, English
and Science. Their least favorite is Araling Panlipunan and EsP.
Then all of them answered that in order to be successful they have
to do their best and hardwork.
WEEKLY JOURNAL
First Week
October 23-26, 2023

My first week was full of excitement and nervousness at the same

time. This week was all about our endorsement to our school. Me
and my other 11 classmates were deployed in Olongapo City
National High School. We met our principal, head teachers, school
coordinator and especially our assigned resource teacher. Also this
week I had observed different working environment and how the
situation as workers took place. Most of the class had their warm
welcome for me and they are excited that they have a student
teacher. I introduced myself to all the classes we attended this
week.

Second Week
November 6-7, 2023

This week was about the item analysis because the first periodical
exam was happened last week (Thursday and Friday). Computing
of grade and some of the students are complying. I see this week as
"patience of a teacher" it is because I see my cooperating teacher
how she handles students who are grade conscious but lazy to make
outputs on time. I see that when my come time I should be strict in
the timeframe of submitting outputs to avoid conflict for me. A
teachers problem when doing grades came especially there are an
advisory class. You should take first the sections you have and
because of that the advisory class will be put in last. As a adviser
you'll be needing a lot of time and lot of work to do such as getting
cards, encoding their personal information and updating it to the
main server.
WEEKLY JOURNAL
Third Week
November 13-17, 2023

This week was a busy week as the near sportfest is coming.

Schoola activities took place. The agendas for today are United
Nation, Homeroom PTA meeting/ Card Releasing and Sportfest
2023. Because this week is busy all of our classes we attended was
always interrupted because of announcementfrom different
activities. Most of our classes were in higher sections that's why
excuse letters were always in the table. And half of the classes
were joining the activity that's why changes in lesson plan happens.
The interrupted discussion for that lesson assigned that day will be
continued so that all of the class will be able to pass the output for
that day. Sometimes reality of this observations slaps hard there's
a lot of adjustment and consideration. Negotiation is important.

Fourth Week
November 20-24, 2023

This week was very insightful and very adorable. Because of the
emergencies of my teacher and other teachersof AP put me in a
situation where I feel that I was the teacher who ha sthe authority
even they are not the class under my cooperating teacher. I had
the chance to have talks with the grade 9 Fedelity which I
observed to be the chaotic classes. That's why I understand starting
the day I knew what their opinion about economics the grade 9
Araling Panlipunan topic.
WEEKLY JOURNAL
I also handle the class of Mr. Johul also grade 10 students which at
first was nervous because I do not know them. But gladly these
students are welcoming though they didn't know me and surprised
that they will be facilitated with a student teacher. I was able to
handle them and I go around inside the classroom while they are
doing their output. Some of them were asking what to do. So
instructed them to finish it as soon as possible and make it possible
to pass it before I walk out the room. Also this week was messy
schedule every Friday thats why I need to be flexible and be on
time as always because OCNHS uses a shorten period for every
subject.

Fifth Week
November 28-29, 2023

My last two days of deployment, saddening but I know it will be a

new start of my journey as a pre service teacher. This days was
about doing some instructional materials for grade nine Fedelity.
Right at the moment an hours before the class starts ma'am Arlene
was assigned me to do tarditional material for this class. I'm
nervous and panicking because I don't have enough money for this
but still I managed to do a simple materials but needed to be
readable when we look at it from the back. Also, I went to
interview students fro m different sections ma'am Arlene handling.
