Introduction The number of buses in Uganda has been steadily increasing in the transport sector since the
early 2000s due to peace in most parts of the country as well as a steadily improving economy The operating environment has also been steadily improving with formation of governing bodies like Uganda Bus Owners Association (UBOA) that monitor and guide the bus transport sector in Uganda. However the increasing number of bus, both at company and association level poses a significant problem because few of these companies have automated systems that provide scheduling and monitoring of the buses, workers and passengers for the bus companies and the associations. Bus reservation system deals with maintenance of records of details
of each passenger who had reserved a seat for a journey. It also includes maintenance of information like schedule and details of each bus and employee (driver). Manual systems in place by Ugandas bus travel companies are

unreliable; difficult to monitor and render this kind of work is tedious. The managers are faced with a number of operational challenges among others and vehicle management, time management, customer service, planning, general performance and meeting business objectives. These challenges, when

inadequately addressed may lead to substandard services and decreased profits. The manual systems and lack of monitoring systems means that most transport companies in Uganda cannot keep or make comprehensive reports on their daily operations.

Purpose of the Project This project is to computerize traveling company to manage data, so that all the transactions become fast and there should not be any error in transaction like calculation mistake, bill generation and other things. It replaces all the paper work. It keeps records of all bills also, giving to ensure 100% successful implementation of the computerized Bus reservation system. Project Description The system is very simple in design and to implement. The system requires very low system resources and the system will work in almost all configurations. It has got following features Ensure data accuracy. Records are efficiently maintained by DBMS. DBMS also provides security for the information. Keep track of passengers using any given bus on any route Availability of seats can be enquired very easily. Booking clerks can also cancel tickets easily. Minimum time needed for the various processing. Better Service. Minimum time required. This would help the corporation prepare and organize its schedules more efficiently on the basis of traffic demand.

Objectives of Research

To investigate the current bus manual reservation system To design a proto-type of the system To implement the proto-type of the system To test and validate the proto-type METHODOLOGY Investigation will be carried using the following requirement collecting techniques Questionnaires Interview A design will be built using the following tools Unified modeling language diagram Use case diagram Data flow diagram The design will be implemented using the following tools. Java programming language Net beans developing environment Benefits The application will help travellers and bus companies to keep track of all the daily bus transport activities. It will also help in tracking passengers in case of any accidents or disaster.
