Note: i)3 short answer questions are there.

ii) Answer all the questions. Each question carries 4 marks.

ii) Write answers to each question in 5 to 6 sentences. 6x2=12

4. a) Define refraction of light. Explain how it occurs when light travels from air into water. (2 marks)

b) A ray of light is incident at an angle of 30 degrees to the normal on the surface of water (refractive index = 1.33).
Calculate the angle of refraction. (2 marks)

5. a) State Newton's Second Law of Motion and explain it in your own words. (2 marks)

b) A 5 kg object is subjected to a net force of 20 N. What is its acceleration? Show your calculation. (2 marks)

6. a) State the law of universal gravitation. How does this law explain the motion of planets around the sun? (2 marks)
b) Calculate the gravitational force between two objects with masses of 10 kg and 15 kg that are 2 meters apart. (Use
G=6.67×10−11 N m2/kg2). Show your calculation. (2 marks)

Section - III

Note: i) This section contains 3 essay type questlons.

ii) Answer any 2 questions.

iii) Write answers in 8-10 sentences.

iv) Each question carries 6 marks. 2x6-12

7. A laboratory technician is asked to prepare a mixture of salt (sodium chloride) and sand. After preparing the mixture,
he is then required to separate the components and recover pure salt crystals.

a. Describe the step-by-step process he should use to separate the components of the mixture and obtain pure salt.

b. Explain why each step is necessary, and discuss whether the final product (salt) would be considered a pure substance
or a mixture, providing reasons for your answer.

8. Define uniform and non-uniform motion. Provide examples of each type of motion and describe how the distance-
time graph would look for both uniform and non-uniform motion.

9. State Newton's three laws of motion. For each law, provide a brief explanation and an everyday example that
illustrates the law in action.
