Building a Healthier Future: The Economic and Social Impact of Investing in Health Centers

Introduction

Investing in health is not only crucial for individual well-being but also for overall social and financial
returns. Good health is a fundamental human right and an essential ingredient for personal happiness
and success. It allows individuals to lead fulfilling lives, pursue education and employment opportunities,
and contribute positively to society.

However, the significance of investing in health goes beyond personal benefits. It impacts economies,
societies, and governments as a whole. When individuals and communities are healthy, they are more
productive, innovative, and resilient. This article explores the economic benefits, social impacts, and
long-term financial returns associated with investing in health. It also highlights the role of both
government and the private sector in promoting health investments.

Duo Security - Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a simple security solution to protect against targeted attacks like
brute-force login. While other tools on this list focus on site safety, 2FA ensures that those who can
access your site security tools, like administrators, are the only ones to do so.

2FA protects secure files and sensitive data by using two sources to confirm the identity of users logging
in to your site, like a chosen passcode along with a push notification to a personal device. Duo Security is
a two-factor authentication service that ensures secure access for any administrator or user on your site.
It uses multi-factor authentication, remote access with secure VPNs, and adaptive access policies to
grant and deny access based on user roles.

Clinics Management System (CMS) based on Patient Ontology

The theoretical contributions of this work is the development of patient centered process ontology that

is the basis for achieving interoperability in healthcare systems and its applications and also for

developing value added healthcare services for consumers, in this context - patients. As a real

applicability of proposed patient centered ontological framework that has been proposed, we have
developed an application to Clinic Management at General Hospital, Matara. Although the system yet to

be deployed, we are very much certain of possible benefits not only to ultimate patients but also

healthcare personnel will receive in their day-to-day activities.

A major problem faced by today healthcare is the increasing diversity and differentiation. New medical

specialties are constantly created: there exist a large number of roles in patient care and many different

public and private organizations.

Primary Health Care: Our Experience From an Urban Primary Health Care Center in Greece

This observational study reported patient data derived from the emergency files of a primary health care

(PHC) center in Greece, with the aim of providing potential solutions for a well-organized, well-

structured, and effective social healthcare system.

This series was conducted at a single urban PHC center in Greece between August 2017 and March

2020. A total of 83,592 patient visits were registered. The mean patient age was 42.5 years (range: three

months to 93 years). Demographics, presenting complaints, and the need for patients who visited the

healthcare center to be referred to tertiary hospitals were examined. Further perspectives and future

strategies to strengthen the national PHC system were addressed.

The most common reasons for visits were pathological (33.6%), followed by general surgery (21.2%) and

orthopedics (18.1%). Pediatric conditions accounted for 12% of visits, cardiological conditions accounted

for 8.6%, and dental problems accounted for 6.8%. The majority of the patients (n = 81,317, 97.3%) were

managed within the health center, and only 2.7% of cases (n = 2275) needed to be referred to a

secondary or tertiary healthcare structure. Reasons for patient referral included the severity or

complexity of the patient's situation, lack of a specific medical specialty, and the unavailability of
overnight laboratory tests. The PHC center remains the cornerstone of a high-quality healthcare system.

A well-structured PHC unit can improve health outcomes and decongest secondary and tertiary health

care.

Readiness of managers and health care workers for e-Health: a cross-sectional study in Khartoum

primary health care centers, Sudan.

E-Health refers to the use of digital data in the health sector for clinical, educational, and administrative

purposes, both locally and remotely. It promotes system responsiveness to patients' needs and

improves healthcare workers' relationships with patients. In primary health care (PHC), e-Health helps

address health system challenges, but has not been given enough attention in Sudan's strategic plan or

policy briefs for PHC reform. Challenges include poor infrastructure, insufficient funds, and unclear

national policies. Healthcare workers' unwillingness to adopt e-health due to lack of experience, ICT

literacy, and security concerns pose significant challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased

concerns about e-Health activation, and e-Health readiness assessment is crucial for successful

implementation. This article aims to study the readiness of managers and healthcare workers for e-

health application at PHC centers in Khartoum.

Online Barangay Health Center Form Improvisation with Health Record Data Visualization Report for

Barangay Masili

The barangay health center provides health care services to the members of the barangay. It provides

free checkup for all ages and renders primary care services in the community. This study aimed to help

the barangay health center to create a hassle free and reliable way of constructing health records and

data visualizations. Based on the interview with the midwife in Masili Barangay Health Center, they have

troubles in modifying the existing forms in their current system. As a result, they sometimes lose the
records because of the many forms that they are handling. The midwife, together with barangay health

officers, wanted a new system that could help them to add new categories in their existing form to

easily enter new data when the City Health Office sends new forms to them. In relation to them, the

researchers developed a Barangay Health Center Form Improvisation with Health Record Data

Visualization Report to lessen the work of the health staff. The data visualization report function will

help them to easily analyze the reports made by the system. Based on the survey results, the study

concluded that the system had met all the study’s objectives and its acceptance by the prospective users

was determined.

Health Care Services Utilization of Barangay Tartaro San Miguel Bulacan

The health of people reflects the wealth of the nation. Human Development Index (HDI) as an indicator

of the country’s economic growth and development focuses on life expectancy. Health care utilization is

a manifestation of the people’s desire to improve quality of life. Quality of life among citizens depends

on the state of their health. The translation of health depends largely on the ability of the state to

provide the basic health care services. The promotion of health among individuals in a country rests on

the thrusts of the government. Aside from promoting health of the citizens, prevention of illness also

depends on the resources existing and being provided to the health care facility. Today the reflection of

country’s health is further translated to the health status of rural communities across the nation.

Utilization of health care services in the rural setting needs a thorough analysis and understanding. It is

in this premise that this study is to be undertaken. The need to further look into the status of utilization

of health care services is relevant to ensure that the country’s health is prioritized.

Using the Socioecological Model to Explore Barriers to Health Care Provision in Underserved

Communities in the Philippines: Qualitative Study

The Philippines’ primary care is delivered via local health centers called barangay health centers (BHCs).

Barangays are the most local government units in the Philippines. Designed to promote and prevent

disease via basic health care, these BHCs are staffed mainly by barangay health workers (BHWs).

However, there has been limited research on the social and environmental factors affecting underserved

communities’ access to health care in underserved areas of the Philippines. Given the importance of

BHCs in disease prevention and health promotion, it is necessary to identify obstacles to providing their

services and initiatives.
