IS 200: Systems Analysis & Design (3 CU)

(a) Course Description

This course gives a broad overview of the main techniques commonly used for carrying out the
analysis and specification of the design for an information system. It focuses on the tools and
techniques used in the analysis and design of systems to meet the increasing need for information
within organizations. Students will learn how to apply the modeling tools of systems
development methodologies in realistic development cases.
(b) Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are:
i. To equip students with skills required in systems development
methodologies and evaluate their relative merits and their
interrelationship
ii. To equip students with skills needed to solve problems related to the
analysis, design and construction of information systems
iii. To equip students with skills required in Data and process modeling
for information systems development
(c) Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the learners shall be able to:
i. Develop and practice the skills and competencies necessary to
undertake requirements analysis for a business application.
ii. Apply problem solving techniques at different levels of abstraction and
understand the effect this may have on a system specification
iii. Create data and process models for an information systems
development project
