Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES

This chapter presents the research design, respondents of the study, data

gathering procedure, data gathering instrument and statistical treatment of data.

Research design

The process of gathering and interpreting numerical data is known as

quantitative research. The quantitative research is selected due to easy and fast

data analysis, large sample size and fast and easy data collection. This research

design is suitable and more efficient for the study due to its high Replicability. It's

easier to prove the study.

According to Sidel et. al,(2018) Quantitative research generally uses large

numbers of participants. This is because it seeks to draw accurate conclusions

about, for example, how common a health problem is within a population, what

factors increase a person’s likelihood of developing a health problem (eg. weight,

gender, wealth, employment, education etc.), or whether a medicine or other

intervention is effective in treating a health problem. Without larger numbers of

people included in studies with these aims, conclusions are less likely to be
accurate because they may not reflect how things actually are in the target

population. There are two types of quantitative design, descriptive and

experimental.

This study used quantitative research design since quantitative research

collects data from a larger size that may be presented easily using statistics and

numbers . Quantitative methods are used by researchers to observe situations

or events that affect people, which is the goal of this research. The researchers

decided to use descriptive research design since the goal of the research is to

identify how multimedia affects the academic skills of the students.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of the study were 80 ICT students from Pinagkawitan

Integrated National High School. The researchers came up with ICT students as

the respondents because they interact or use multimedia editing softwares

compared to the other strand. The study involves participants who are selected

and available
Data gathering procedure

The researchers created questions based on the problems they want to

answer. The researchers collected data and related studies that may support the

study . The researcher's adviser reviewed and pointed out the flaws of the study.

Comments and suggestions of the adviser were considered to correct the flaws.

Questionnaires are prepared by the researchers to gather data and information

to the respondents. The respondents answered the questionnaire that gave the

researchers the data and information needed .After collecting data , the

researchers tally and create a presentation of data that is collected.

Data gathering instrument

The research conducted a study with the use of a survey questionnaire. A

questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of questions that the

researcher wants more information and data. It is a research instrument that

consists of a series of questions. The items for the questionnaire were made by

the researchers based on their knowledge and experience. The questionnaire is

divided into two parts. The first part consists of the respondents demographic

profile which includes name, age, sex and strand ,the respondents are given a

choice to fill this up or leave blank. The second part consists of questions that will

help determine how multimedia editing software affects the academic skills of the

respondents, the researchers used likert scale to determine how effective it is.
