• Ukrainian lands have used blue-yellow colors since
ancient times. As early as the 12th century, they appeared on the coats of arms and flags of the Galicia-Volyn principality. These colors were also used during the Liberation War led by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. However, the flag acquired its modern appearance only in the 20th century. • 1. 1918 — the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) officially adopted the blue-yellow flag as a state symbol. 2. 1949 — in the diaspora, in emigration, the flag remained a symbol of the Ukrainian national movement.
