Mobile Legends Bang Bang is one of the most popular MOBA game worldwide causing for users

particularly teenagers to be addicted in to it as it provides entertainment among them. In 2016, MLBB

also known as Mobile Legends: Bang Bangs was released by a Chinese developer named Moonton, a
subsidiary of Byte Dance which eventually boast popularity worldwide among gamers particularly in
Southeast Asia where according to a previous report, it contains 18.4 million players in total with
approximately 34,00 active players daily. With millions of users engaging and interacting in this type of
game application, we can possibly claim that various mobile game applications indeed play a major part
in shaping today’s modern entertainment. On the other hand, while this type of application offers
entertainment to occupy our free time, it also raises various concerns that contribute to the growing
issues in the nature of mobile gaming: addiction, making it very alarming among players and users
globally.

WebMD Editorial Contributors stated that mobile games specifically Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
often improves critical thinking where almost every part of your brain is working to help you achieve
higher-level thinking which improves mental stimulation. However, a previous study argues that video
game addiction can negatively alter one’s personality and behavior, leading to serious health conditions
including ADHD, anxiety disorder, and depression. Additionally, Wang et al. (2019) mentioned that
mobile game addiction is positively associated with social anxiety, depression, and loneliness where as a
matter of fact, male adolescents tend to report more social anxiety when they use mobile game
addictively. Thus, it emphasizes that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang not only provides mental stimulation
but also offers a high chance that it can be a potential risk to any mental health conditions if not
managed properly. This also suggests that self-awareness should be considered when playing mobile
games specifically Mobile Legends: Bang Bang to maintain a stable mental health and prevent the
potential risk of developing mental health conditions.

Addiction to mobile games, particularly Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, not only affects mental health
negatively but also a person’s physical health condition. This statement has been scientifically proven by
Peracchia and Curcio (2018), researchers from the National Library of Medicine, who concluded that
playing mobile games for long periods, particularly in the evening, is a significant, common, and
probable cause of sleep problems: evening exposure to mobile games, in fact, can lead to insufficient
and low-quality sleep. Moreover, many studies show that most teenagers who are addicted to mobile
games have high heart rates and blood pressure due to too much excitement and stress. Most of those
who are involved in these games fail to notice the time passing and even forget to eat, which may lead
to an increase in body weight or a potential risk of extensive weight loss. This demonstrates that playing
mobile games too much, particularly Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, can lead to various physical health
conditions, which a person should take into consideration when looking for ways to maintain his/her
overall physical health.

While addiction may lead to mental and physical health issues, it may also hinder a teenager’s
academic performance wherein excessive playing of mobile games specifically Mobile Legends: Bang
Bang mostly distracts them from doing their homework and reviewing for their upcoming assessments.
Addiction: A study published in the Journal of Behavioral Addictions (2020) found that 22.1% of Mobile
Legends players exhibited symptoms of gaming addiction.Stress and Anxiety: Research published in the
International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction (2019) revealed that excessive Mobile Legends
gameplay increased stress and anxiety levels in players. Sleep Disturbances: A study in the Journal of
Sleep Research (2018) found that playing Mobile Legends before bedtime disrupted sleep patterns and
reduced sleep quality. Sedentary Behavior: Research published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in
Sport (2019) linked excessive Mobile Legends gameplay to sedentary behavior and decreased physical
activity. Eye Strain and Vision Problems: A study in the Journal of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic
Surgery (2018) found that prolonged Mobile Legends gameplay caused eye strain and vision problems in
players. Posture-Related Issues: Research published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science (2019)
revealed that playing Mobile Legends for extended periods led to poor posture and musculoskeletal
discomfort.
