Monster Sweater
by Rebecca Griffiths @Knitstitchrepeat
Oh my goodness!! HEY!! I am so happy you are here! Thank you from the bottom of
my heart for buying this pattern, I really hope you love it! <3
This fun and squishy beauty is knitted in the round from the waistband up!
There is the option for a ribbed waistband or the turned up garter stitch waistband
shown in picture above.
The Monster Sweater is then separated for the front and back panels, we then go
on to do some flat stocking stitch. Then we have some neckline shaping. We pick up
stitches around the arm holes for the ICONIC HUGE SLEEVES, knit those bad boys
up and bind them off. We finish off the sweater by picking up stitches along the
neckline for the neckline ribbing.
The Monster Sweater is totally seamless, apart from the shoulder stitch 3 needle
bind off which means more knitting, less seaming YAY! Weaving in ends is an option,
not a must.
☺ Please do read the whole pattern before getting started to save any
frogging! And I would advise you to knit up your tension gauge before you start also
(sometimes I don’t, but you SHOULD…)

Gauge
Knitted flat in stocking stitch, with 12mm needles:
10 stitches = 14.5 cm
10 rows= 9.5 cm

means that the jumper will be roomy! If you fancy a more fitted look, please go down

This sweater is super customizable length wise. Remember that the length and bust
of the sweater shown in this table will only be achieved with the correct gauge and if
you do not customize the pattern.
I shall add instructions on how to make your sweater longer or shorter in the pattern!

Yarn amounts
Because this pattern is a stash buster and different types of yarn can be heavier than
others (eg. cotton is heavier than merino) it is quite tricky to get an approximate yarn
amount for this pattern...
If using Crazy Sexy Wool you will need 5-9 balls of 200grams
If using Double Knitting yarn held together you will need 700grams- 1600 grams
The pattern
As we are starting from the bottom up we are going to knit a waistband. If you would
like a garter stitch band effect- please follow option 1. If you would like a ribbed
waistband, please follow option 2.
With 12mm needles for option 1, with 10mm needles for option 2
Note: Please cast on with the long tail cast on method (video tutorial above)
Cast on 64, 70, 78, 84, (92, 98, 106, 112) stitches and join in the round and place
BOR marker
Option 1 for waistband (garter turn up effect) start with 12mm needles
Row 1: knit all stitches
Row 2: Purl all stitches
Starting with a knit row, continue in stocking stitch for 20, 22, 24, 24, (26, 28, 30, 30)
rows ending at BOR
You can customize the length of the sweater here! If you would like a shorter or
longer sweater please add or subtract rows here
Note: The gauge is 9.5cm so measure the length of your body and where you would
like the sweater to end starting from around 2 inches below your underarm!
For example 36 rows until 2 inches below your underarm would get you
36x0.95=34.2cm/13.4inches from 5cm/2 inches below your underarm)
I have designed this sweater to be cropped but if you fancy a longer sweater here is
your chance

Now we are going to pick up our sleeve stitches clockwise around the arm holes.
Note: You do this by picking up 7 for every 8 stitches and then adding 4 stitches for
the underarm. I have given instructions for each size below, but do know that picking
up stitches is often an inexact science, and if you end up picking up more or less
stitches than specified in pattern, it really is okay!
Take the stitches you have picked up, work in stocking stitch in the round for desired
length, on the next row K2tog for the entire row and then switch to smaller needles
and work 1x1 rib for 4 rows, then bind off!
Another note: The ribbing adds 5cm/2 inches, so please try your sweater on this
point (*) so you can decide how long you would like the sleeves to be!)
My arms are long, I knitted in stocking stitch for 48 rows (47cm/18.5 inches)

Neckline ribbing
ALL SIZES
With 10mm needles
Pick up 8 stitches for every 9 stitches/rows around the neckline of your sweater
starting from the middle of the neckline of your back panel. This is my preferred
method, and remember that picking up stitches isn’t an exact science.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you have an even number of stitches
Join in the round, work in 1x1 rib for 4 rows, bind off in a stretchy bind off.
Join in the round, work in 1x1 rib for 4 rows, bind off in a stretchy bind off.

your preferred method.
