INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE

1. This tool consists of TWO sections A and B.


2. Answer ALL questions in section A and any THREE questions in section B in the
answer booklet and drawing paper provided.
3. Marks for each question are indicated in brackets.
4. Do not write on the question paper
5. Answer questions in English.

This paper consists of SEVEN (7) printed pages.


Candidates should check the question paper to ascertain that all the pages
are printed as indicated and that no questions are missing.

 HB and 2H/3H/4H Pencil  Engineering drawing set

SECTION A (40 MARKS)


Answer all questions in this section.
1. Construct a triangle with a perimeter of 170 mm and sides in the ratio 7:3:5. (5 marks)
2. Construct a rectangle that has a diagonal 55 mm long and one side 35 mm long.
(4 marks)
3. Freehand sketching is an essential skill for quickly communicating design ideas and concepts.
Make free hand sketches of the following workshop tools:
a) Flat screwdriver
b) Combinational Pliers
c) Ball pein hammer. (6 marks)
4. The concentric circle method is a classic technique for constructing ellipses. It involves
drawing two concentric circles and using their intersections to define the points of the ellipse.
Given the major and minor axes of an ellipse are 120mm and 80mm respectively, construct an
ellipse using concentric circle method. (5 marks)
5. BS 3939 is a British Standard that provides guidelines for graphical symbols used in electrical
power, telecommunications, and electronics. Draw the following BS3939 symbols:
a) Battery
b) Light Dependent Resistor
c) Diode
d) Fuse. (4 marks)

6. Sketch the conventional symbol for each of the following orthographic projections:
a) First angle projection.
b) Third angle projection. (4 marks)
7. Two views of a block are given in figure 1. Make an isometric sketch of the block taking corner
A as the lowest point. (4 marks)

8. Line AB is 90mm long. Point K is 50mm above line AB and 60mm from point A. Drop a
perpendicular to line AB from K (3 marks)
9. A triangle has sides 100mm, 106mm and 60 mm long. Draw the triangle and construct an
inscribed circle (3 marks)
10. Caring and maintaining drawing equipment is crucial for ensuring accuracy, longevity, and
optimal performance of your tools. Outline two key maintenance practices for compasses and
pointers. (2 marks)

SECTION B (60 MARKS)
Answer three question in this section. All questions carry equal marks
11. Figure 2 shows a sectional orthographic view of an isometric pictorial drawing. Perform the
following tasks:
a) Redraw the view using AutoCAD software.
b) Insert major dimensions
c) Include your name and candidate number.
d) Print the layout on an A4 size paper. (20 marks)

12. Figure 3 shows a branched cylindrical pipe. Draw the complete plan, front elevation and the
surface development for main pipe and the branch pipe. (20 marks)

13. Figure 4 is a pictorial view in isometric projection. Draw the following views in first angle
orthographic projection full-size
a) Front view from the direction of the arrow
b) Plan
c) End view
d) Insert four major dimensions (20 marks)

14. Figure 5 shows one view of an object. Using AutoCAD software perform the following;
a) create the drawing;
b) insert dimensions;
c) insert your name and index number;
d) print on A4 size paper. (20marks)
