YT Scriptwriters (Essential)
1.1 - Welcome!
✍️ Module 4 - Write The Script Thank you so much for investing in the YouTube Scriptwriter's Playbook!
Module 5 - Optimize The Script As a result of the incredible feedback I had from students on the original version of this
course, I'm incredibly excited to share Version 2.0 with you!
The 3 Levels of Scriptwriting - YTSP is now designed to suit your workflow no matter
how much time you have . Whether you've got one hour or 100 hours per week, there are
now different "routes" through the course to accommodate your availability.
Cheatsheets - I've added several cheatsheets which you can literally just steal from if
Script Templates - I've completely revamped my YTSP Script Template... it's now the
YTSP Script Engine with additional features and capabilities in Notion. Plus, by popular
demand, I've also created script templates in Excel and Docs.
Exercises - I've added a bunch of these so you can now practice many of the techniques
and frameworks on practice scripts, before applying them to your own.
Material - Honestly, it's hard to summarise how much this course has been shaken up in
V2. While much of the core material remains, I've restructured and re-written almost
every lesson to make the process of YouTube scriptwriting as seamless as possible for
you.
Since 2021, I've written for YouTubers ranging from 40k subscribers, all the way up to
3m+, spanning both entertainment, edutainment and education.
I've reviewed retention graphs and scripts from hundreds of videos, consulted with
creators and businesses big and small, and helped train in-house writers for other
creator teams.
Not only does it include all the successful scripting principles and strategies I've observed
and applied over the years, but it also addresses a broader "thesis" I have:
Writing YouTube scripts is overwhelming because you're doing too much at once.
I experienced this for two years, and I know other creators do too:
You can’t focus on optimizing the hook if you don't know who you’re writing for.
You can’t make progress on your first draft if you're constantly worrying about "retention
optimisation".
You can't create curiosity in your script if you don't have a clear structure.
The script you were excited to write an hour ago now feels like a chore.
But there is a way to write every script that prevents you from feeling overwhelmed, and
leads to more engaging videos.
For example, if you're writing while thinking about retention optimisation, perfect grammar
and accompanying B-Roll suggestions…
...your mind will have to switch between these different skills constantly leading to slower ,
So, to make sure you're constantly making progress and writing something that's actually
worth watching...
That's why I've broken this course up into these five modules:
You'll choose your scriptwriting format from the selection of updated templates I’ve
created (now available in Notion, Docs and Sheets).
Then, you’ll create an audience avatar, and I’ll show you why this is the secret
weapon that’s going to make every single script 10x easier to write.
You'll learn how to come up with dozens of video ideas in around 30 minutes,
before taking one of these concepts forward for the rest of the course.
You’ll learn how to frame, brainstorm and package your ideas using simple
frameworks and checklists.
You’ll create the structure for your script using the information in your brainstorm
and everything you’ve learned about your audience as guidance.
Then, with your overall structure already built, join the dots to create a retention-
optimised script.
Through a series of simple “trim tests”, you'll learn how to cut your script down like
a fine diamond (yeah, I said it) until you’re left with only the best bits.
Excited? Me too
Each time you "take" the course, you'll end up with a new script by the end.
So think of YTSP as your scriptwriting partner - it's here for as long, and as many times,
as you need it.
Ifyou consider yourself an "edu-tainment" channel, I encourage you to follow the advice
directed at educational channels throughout YTSP.
