Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering Department of Industrial and Production Engineering

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) Subject: Internship Report Submission.

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well as I write this. I'm writing to submit my internship report on the
manufacturing process and quality control at National Tube Limited (NTL) as an Industrial and
manufacturing Engineering student at American International University-Bangladesh. The technical
features of NTL's operations, my internship experience, a detailed examination of the pipe production
process, and a summary of the testing and manufacturing equipment utilized are all covered in length
in this report.

My experience as an intern at NTL, a well-known company in Bangladesh's pipe manufacturing

industry, has been immensely fulfilling. It has given me a deep grasp of the complexities involved in
pipe production and quality control in addition to enabling me to put my academic knowledge to use
in a real-world situation.

As my company supervisor, you have my sincere appreciation, as do all of the engineers at NTL, for
your tremendous help and advice throughout my internship. My professional development and
industry knowledge have greatly benefited from your knowledge and guidance.

Your sincerely,

1. INTRODUCTION
The necessity of work experience has grown dramatically in recent years for job seekers, which is a
major barrier for recent college grads. Companies in today's cutthroat market are looking for
trustworthy and skilled workers. An important turning point that emphasizes the value of practical
experience for students in this context is internships. Unlike in the past, having a degree is no longer
sufficient; internships and other forms of practical experience are now essential for career success.
Students have the chance to get practical experience and valuable insights through internships. An
internship may greatly enhance a student's professional understanding and strengthen their resume.
For university students, particularly those with a strong interest in engineering, National Tube
Limited (NTL) provides excellent internship opportunities. These internships provide students a
unique perspective on the engineering field by exposing them to real-world technological
advancements. I gained a thorough grasp of NTL's production processes for API, GI, and MS Line
pipes throughout my internship. I was tasked with maintaining quality control while operating a wide
variety of equipment. Among my duties were conducting a variety of tests, such as nondestructive
testing (NDT), hydrostatic testing, tensile and metallographic testing, and others. I also gained a lot of
knowledge about supply chain logistics, project management, engineering ideas, and the value of
teamwork and collaboration from the internship. This experience gave a comprehensive
understanding of the inner workings of the company and was essential in understanding how these
concepts were really applied.

1.1. Organization Profile

The National Tubes Limited (NTL) facility, located in Gazipur City's Tongi Industrial Area close to
Dhaka, has a significant industrial impact in Bangladesh as well as a noteworthy historical history.
The Adamjee Group established Adamjee Pipes in 1964 and installed a manufacturing facility that
could produce pipes with nominal diameters ranging from 1/2" to 4". The plant was nationalized in
1972 and became part of the Ministry of Industries' Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation.
The company expanded and changed its image throughout the 1980s. In 1980 and 1982, it opened
two additional production plants and renamed itself National Tubes Limited. This advancement made
it possible for them to expand their production capabilities to accommodate pipes up to 8" in
diameter. NTL had a significant change in 1989 when it became a Public Limited Company. 51% of
its shares remained in government ownership during this process, while 49% of its shares were sold
to the general public.
