A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 3

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to;


 Define diphthongs and affixes.
 Identifies the root words and affixes;
 Refine learners using the diphthongs and affixes.

III. CONCEPTS:

 Diphthongs – are vowel sounds that begins as one sounds and blend into another
when they are articulated. They can be achieved through the use of two consecutive
vowel as well as one vowel that changes as it is pronounced. Words with oi, oy, ow,
and oo are diphthongs.
 Affixes- a set of letters generally added to the beginning or end of a root word or
base word to modify its meaning. The root is the portion of the word that remains
when all prefixes and suffixes have been removed.
Root words and affixes
 A root word is a base word or main word. It does not have a prefix or suffix.
 Prefix a syllable added to the beginning of a word to a form a new word.

Example: Review disobedient misspelled recount unhurt informal

Some Prefix and meaning:

1. Dis- “not” or “opposite of”.

Examples: dishonest- not honest

Distrust- not to trust

2. Un- means “not”

Examples: unhappy- not happy

Unkind- not kind

3. Re- means “again”


Examples: repay- pay again

Regain- gain again

Suffix – a syllable added to the end of a word to form a new word. It changes
the meaning of a word.

Suffixes are; er, or, ist, ious, eous, y, ful, less, ing, ly, ed, ment, able, ty, and es.

Example:

use -less useless

noise -y noisy

courage -ous couragenous

mystery -ious mysterious

talk -ing talking

develop -ment development

brush -ed brushed

Roy and the Field of Soy

Father works in the field. He toils in the field. Two


coy boys go with father to dig in the field of soy.
Roy, with a yellow toy, joins the coy boys. Father
warns Roy and coy boys.“ Don’t destroy the soy.
Don’t play with your toys. “But the boy and Roy
play and jump with joy. They jump on the moist
and the soy was destroyed. Now father has no say
to harvest. He is annoyed.
