LESSON 3:

Angles
Angle
• a figure formed by two non-collinear rays
having the same endpoint. It is denoted by
the symbol ∠.

Example:

• Vertex is the common endpoint where the

two lines meet.
• Sides of an angle are two non-collinear rays.
Angle
Naming of Angle

• An angle can be named in three different ways:

❖By three capital letters
❖By the name of the vertex
❖By a number or small letter
Name the following angles:

1. 2.

3.
Measurement of an Angle
• The measure of an angle (𝑚∠) is written in
units called degrees (0). We measure an
angle with a protractor.

The two scales of protractor:

Measurement of an Angle
• The measure of an angle (𝑚∠) is written in
units called degrees (0). We measure an
angle with a protractor.

How to use protractor:

1. Place the center point of the protractor on
the vertex of the angle to be measured.
2. Make sure that the mark labeled 0 on either
score is placed on one side of the angle.
3. Read the scale where the other side of the
angle falls.

Characteristics of Angle

Acute Angle Right Angle Obtuse Angle

Acute Angle
• An angle that measures less than 900.

T
𝑚∠𝑇𝑀𝑅 = 300

M
R
Since the measure of 𝑚∠𝑇𝑀𝑅 is less than 900
then it is ACUTE ANGLE.
Right Angle
• An angle that measures exactly 900.

𝑚∠𝑆𝐺𝐷 = 900
G
S

Since the measure of 𝑚∠𝑆𝐺𝐷 is equal to 900

then it is RIGHT ANGLE.
Obtuse Angle
• An angle that measures greater than 900 but
less than 1800.

𝑚∠1 = 1300

Since the measure of 𝑚∠1 is greater

than to 900 but less than to 1800 then
it is an OBTUSE ANGLE.
