Today we are faced with a question that is becoming increasingly popular.

Should schools prioritize

standardized testing or practical skills? I firmly believe that schools should prioritize practical skills
over standardized testing, given that they provide many benefits such as critical thinking, adaptability,
and a more fun approach to education. This essay will examine both sides and balance the advantages
and disadvantages of each option. One of the primary reasons I support the prioritization of practical
skills is creating and encouraging creativity, enhancing critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and
collaborative work. These skills are crucial in today's world because they not only support and develop
students but also emphasize applying knowledge in real-world situations.

Employers are seeking candidates who can demonstrate practical abilities rather than just theoretical
knowledge in a labor market that increasingly values hands-on experience. The neglect of theoretical
knowledge is one of the main problems. An excessive emphasis on practical skills could result in a
superficial understanding of concepts, and principles that are necessary for a well-rounded education.
Standardized testing, on the other hand, offers a consistent method of evaluating student
performance across various districts and schools.
The results of standardized tests are used by many colleges and universities in the admissions
process. In addition to helping students obtain scholarships and other opportunities, high scores can
show that a student is prepared for college. Additionally, despite its benefits, standardized testing has
a lot of drawbacks, like a limited curriculum. Schools may "teach to the test," emphasizing mainly the
knowledge and abilities that will be evaluated.
Another example would be lack off abilities needed in daily life or the workplace. In summary,
standardized testing has a role in education, but its drawbacks underscore the need for a more well-
rounded strategy that includes real-world skills to prepare students for both exams and life outside of
the classroom. By focusing on practical skills, educators can better prepare students for the
challenges they will face in their careers and personal lives, ultimately creating a more capable
generation.
