● Self Quiz
Instructions: Circle T if the statement is true, F if the statement is false, or write the best
answer in the space provided. Answers for the self-quiz are located in the References and
Resources Guide at the end of the book.
1. (F) A computer system with a C drive and a D drive must have two physical hard drives.
2. (T) The smallest amount of space a file on a disk can take up is one cluster.
3. (F) External hard drives typically connect via a flash memory reader.
5.(F) A hybrid hard drive contains both magnetic hard disks and optical discs.
6. The drive letter that would most likely be assigned to the primary hard drive on a typical
personal computer is (C)
7.Storage media are not Volatile meaning they do not lose their contents when the power is
shut off.
9.A Smart Card Looks similar to a credit card but contains a chip and other circuitry that can
store data.
10. Secure Digital (SD) cards are one type of Flash Memory Medium.
Assume, for simplicity’s sake, that a kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, a megabyte is 1,000,000
bytes, And a gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes. You have a 500-gigabyte hard drive with
the following Content:
a. A DVD disc can hold either 25 GB or 50 GB and is designed for high-definition content,
such as movies.
c. Memory used in conjunction with a magnetic hard drive to improve system performance is
Called a disk Chache.
3. Explain why CD-ROM discs are not erasable, but CD+RW discs are.?
•Ans: CD-ROM discs come with data already stored on the disc that’s why CD-ROM discs
cannot be erased or overwritten they are read only.
•CD+RW is A Compact Disc Re-Writable (CD-RW) and an erasable disc that can be reused.
The data on a CD-RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times.
4. List two possible advantages and two possible disadvantages for using online
storage.
Advantages:
•Backup your data to the cloud
•No more external hard drives
Disadvantages:
•You need an internet connection
•Extra storage space comes at a cost
● Conclusion: (In My Opinion There Are more Advantages And Disadvantages of
Online storage they are as: (accessibility, Security, Cost-efficien, Cost-efficient.)(
account or service Hijacking, Insecure interfaces and APIS ,denial of service attacks).
5. Which types of storage media would be appropriate for someone who needed to
exchange large (5 MB to 75 MB) files with another person? List at least three different
types, stating why each Might be the most appropriate under specific conditions.
Answer: such as one belonging to Snapfish, Walmart, or Costco) in order to order prints,
enlargements, or other photo-based items. If you have ever sent photos over the Internet,
were you
concerned about someone other than the intended recipient intercepting or viewing your
photo files. There are a number of types of flash memory cards available, such as SD, CF,
XD, and memory stick. Is there an advantage to having multiple standards or would it be
beneficial to consumers if there was only one flash memory standard, such as just the
various sizes of SD cards. Flash Memory Card A small, rectangular flash memory medium,
such as a CompactFlash (CF) or Secure Digital (SD) card; often used with digital cameras
and other portable devices.
Discussion Questions:
Question no 1:There are a number of types of flash memory cards available, such as
SD, CF, XD, and memory stick. Is there an advantage to having multiple standards or
would it be beneficial to consumers if there was only one flash memory standard,
such as just the various sizes of SD cards? Would having a single standard be less
expensive and more convenient for consumers? If so, will a single standard naturally
evolve or should it be mandated by the storage industry or the government? If you
use multiple types of flash memory cards with your devices, would you prefer they all
used the same type? Why or why
not?
Answer:
•Flash Memory Cards
• Flash Memory Card is a small card, which is an electronic flash memory storage
device. It is used in a variety of input devices like digital camera, digital media
player and many more to capture the data and then to transfer it to the
computers.
• These are small-state storage devices.
• In mobile devices, GPS navigation systems and many other portable devices, a special
type of memory card is used to store textual, pictorial or other type of
data. This card is called flash memory card.
• Flash memory card is a type of electrically erasable programmable permanent
memory.
Question no 2: Would having a single standard be less expensive and more convenient
for consumers?
Answer:
•There are various flash memory cards like Secure digital (SD), Compact flash (CF), memory
stick and D picture card
Only one flash memory card that is Secure Digital Card (SD) is beneficial for consumers but
there size may vary.
Secure digital card
• Secure digital card is a mini-external storage medium and flash memory card.
• It is a non-volatile memory card which is used for portable devices.
• It is used in digital cameras, cellular phones and music player also.
• It is versatile and easy to use and holds 2GB data.
Q: If so, will a single standard naturally evolve or should it be mandated by the
storage industry or the
government?
ANSWER: Yes, a single standard of flash memory card can be less expensive and more
convenient because the fact less expensive or more expensive is dependent on their holding
capacity whether your data is too small or too large. In addition, it is easy to carry and plug
and play device and connect with computer USB port. It is flexible and upgrades data.
Q: If you use multiple types of flash memory cards with your devices, would you
prefer they all used
the same type?
Answer: Yes, a single standard of flash memory card can be naturally evolved and there is
no need to mandate by the government or storage industry. One can buy and use it
according to needs and
requirements.
Q:Why or why not?
Answer: No, when the single user uses multiple types of flash memory cards, he
will not prefer them to be of the same size. Normally he prefers to have a single
flash memory that is capable of holding all the data he wishes to store. If one
flash memory card can done everything and solves all requirements then why
should he use multiple types of cards.
In case a single flash memory cannot solve his problem, then h can use multiple
flash memory cards of different capacity.
People send their digital photos over the Internet in different ways. For instance, digital
photos are often e-mailed to others, posted on Facebook pages and other social networking
sites, and uploaded
to a server (such as one belonging to Snapfish, Walmart, or Costco) in order to order prints,
enlargements, or other photo-based items. If you have ever sent photos over the Internet,
were you
concerned about someone other than the intended recipient intercepting or viewing your
photo files?
If you have ever uploaded files to a processing service for printing, did you check to see if
the Web server being used was secure? Should individuals be concerned about sending
their personal photos
over the Internet? There are a number of advantages, but are there privacy risk
Internet:In today’s world of advancement and technology, people are getting highly
dependent and
relied on the internet, web services and the digital technologies.
These are the most common examples of the technologies that people are very effectively
and
extensively used in every day’s life.
• Internet is the biggest network of computers.
• It is the network of networks.
• It is also called as interconnection of computer networks.
• It is used as one of the primary means to share information or variety of data from one
system to
another system located on different remote places or at same place.
• It is a combination of personal computers, mainframes, cell phones and many more
electronic
devices.
• Internet provides many different services for different category people and is easily
accessible from
anywhere with minimum requirements.
