Q1 (a) What is an amplifier; define different types of gain and relation among (10)
them. Derive the expression for voltage amplifier with neat sketch.
(b) Consider an amplifier operating from ±10-V power supplies. It is fed with a
sinusoidal voltage having 1 Vpeak and delivers a sinusoidal voltage output
of 9 V peak to a 1-kΩ load. The amplifier draws a current of 9.5 mA from
each of its two power supplies. The input current of the amplifier is found
to be sinusoidal with 0.1 mA peak. Find the voltage gain, the current gain,
the power gain, the power drawn from the dc supplies, the power
dissipated in the amplifier, and the amplifier efficiency.
Q2 (a) Define non-inverting op-amp, its gain expression, input-output resistances, (10)
and its effect on finite open loop gain.
(b) For the circuit in Fig. 1determines the values of v1, i1, i2, vO, iL, and iO. Also
determine the voltage gain vo ⁄vI, current gain iL ⁄ iI, and power gain PO ⁄ PI.

for open book system Examination. As examination duration is 2 hours, the
answer of any question should not take more than 20 minutes.
Question file name should be subject name in full.
Q3 (a) Write down short notes on intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductor. (10)
(b) Determine the current ID and the diode voltage VD for the circuit in Fig. 2
with VDD = 10 V and R = 0.5kΩ. Assume that the diode has a current of 2
mA at a voltage of 0.7 V.
